Hope you wise women can help me!

I'm so stuck looking for a girls name. Surname will be Hwong so I don't really want a one syllable first name.

Also avoiding names ending in a T sound as the it sounds like surname is Twong which is er.. wrong.

I love Matilda and Imogen but worry that they are too common.

Not so keen on flowery girlie names (Emily, Ophelia etc)

If it helps you picture things then we are a mixed race, London, fairly creative couple. Ideally looking for an English first name.

Any suggestions?

Carmella Hwong. I think it sounds nice.

I quite like Beatrix but always think of 'beer tricks' so couldn't use it.

Loving your suggestions!

So the short list now is:

Beatrix
Matilda
Liberty

My favourite is Imogen but my partner has vetoed that. Humph!
Front runner is currently Beatrix. My only worry is it's match with the surname (Hwong) if abbreviated as it could sound like "be wrong"

Any opinions/ further suggestions really appreciated!

For Katherine you could use nn Kitty if you don't like Kath or Katie.

As you like Beatrice, there is also Eugenie :)

I love Miranda with your surname, it's got that Shakespearean connection but I always think it sounds really modern and cool.

Teapot13 · 30/09/2013 04:27

Alice - a true classic, very English, but not heard that much.

Sybil - beautiful and feminine but strong and not at all flowery.

Katrose · 30/09/2013 09:39

Christina?

Just have a try (yes out loud!) of the common short forms of the longer names you are thinking of. You may insist on the longer "proper " forms of names but school friends probably wont especially when teenagers!

hurricanemum · 01/10/2013 22:07

Cecily, Verity, Jessica, Georgina, Felicity, Victoria (don't like Vicky though),
