There was a little girl in my son's nursery class last year with the name Eliana - I had never heard it previously.

I don't like it. Too flowery and Disney princess-esque.

I know an Ellia though and love that.

I just think it's a bit 'well I like the name ellie but it's common as muck these days so I am going to add an -ana on the end to make it that bit unique'. It's a but try hard and made up IMO, but it is quite pretty.

Isn't it a Greek name? I know a grown up Eliana. It's a lovely name.

I'm having a baby girl on the 4th who is going to be named Eliana. The name means "answered by God". We've had a really tough time. We found out our baby has a serious heart defect at the 20 week scan so really need some prayers answered.

I don't believe it is a made up name...

I would have said it sounded Greek/cypriot.

It is Greek but also Hebrew in origin. Definetly not made up.

My daughters name is Eliana I love it and so many people tell me how beautiful it is and yes she does get called Eli by friends but she also gets called Ana too. She loves her name. And it's just the perfect little girl name

But I would worry about the inevitability of Ellie which I don't like much.

I know two, both Jewish heritage so I agree there is a Hebrew link. Pretty- but both get called Ellie.

Dd3's middle name (s) are Eli-Anne pronounced Eliana (Norwegian name so it has that Scandinavian lift at the end to make Anne found almost like Anna)
