Here's the shortlist of baby names I'm considering that I generated with Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder. Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions, particularly for boys!

Boys
Amos
Cormac
Fraser
Hector

Girls
Claudia
Martha
Saffron
Tessa

I like Amos and Cormac. Don't like any of the girls' ones though, sorry! Without knowing what kind of thing you're after (other than, I'm guessing, a 2 syllable name), I'm no help. Oh no, Claudia has 3 syllables, I'm talking rubbish.

HeyJudith · 22/09/2013 20:11

I like Amos for a boy and Claudia for a girl.

Cormac I fear is too prone to teasing/rhyming (starting with BigMac)

Fraser I know is popular in Scotland, but it's ever so slightly (I'm sorry I can't not say it) chavvy sounding outside of Scotland.

Hector sounds too serious, doesn't shorten to anything nice (Hec?) and is quite charmless. Even Fraser, though I'm not keen as above, has more charisma than Hector.

Saffron is pretty but a leetle bit try-hard.

Martha.. I don't see this as very feminine.

Tessa always seems a bit unfinished to me. I like Tess as a short name, like I like Jess, but Tessa... I bracket it with Teresa and Ruth. Very meh.

I like Fraser and Claudia

FingersCrossedLegsNot · 22/09/2013 20:18

I like Tessa, Martha and Amos.

usualsuspect · 22/09/2013 20:20

Cormac and Tessa.

Littlecherublegs · 22/09/2013 20:25

Love Amos and Martha!

Cormac and Claudia are ok.

Not keen on the others.

Other suggestions:
Linus
OSpencer
Dexter
Silas

Matilda
Scarlett
Flora
Nina

Littlecherublegs · 22/09/2013 20:27

That should be just Spencer not OSpencer??!!

EverythingIsSoThrowback · 22/09/2013 20:28

I love the name Tessa, I think it's a beautiful name, a little cutesy, but not in a bad way (as in, it's not just a baby name).
Again, I like the name Martha, but it is a sad name for me as one of DD1's friends who recently died was called Martha.

For boys, I like Fraser.

JumpingJackSprat · 22/09/2013 20:31

claudia is gorgeous.

BananaHammocks · 22/09/2013 20:36

Quite mixed opinions! Does nobody like Hector? It's probably the frontrunner! I know a lot of people don't like it coz of the nagging/bothering associations but I love it! Did just watch Troy last week though!

i like hector then amos of your boys.

SpottedDickandCustard · 22/09/2013 20:40

Love Claudia, Tess (not Tessa!) and Fraser.

Don't like the rest I'm afraid.

lucywiltshire · 22/09/2013 20:58

I love Hector! DS2 was going to be Hector Sholto but it didn't suit him so he is Toby George (neither of which were in our top 20 but literally nothing we had shortlisted suited him!)

pygmy · 22/09/2013 21:49

My son, due in 3 weeks will be Hector. I like Claudia from your girl list.

wiltingfast · 22/09/2013 21:57

Hate Hector sorry! Just such a hard rigid sounding name to my ears, would never go for it.

Like Amos and Cormac much better.

Like all the girls except Saffron. Favourite is Tessa. But really like martha and claudia too thought the lame thing puts me off claudia a teeny bit.

Good luck!

absentmindeddooooodles · 22/09/2013 22:00

Hector and tessa. Gorgeous.

Boys....reuben, jude, myles, linus, ....

rachel234 · 23/09/2013 07:07

Amos is great. As is Martha.

Hector is awful, not only due to its meaning (bully, torment) but the lack of nice nicknames (heck?).

Frontdoorstep · 23/09/2013 09:12

I like Tessa and Fraser, but I'm in Scotland, Fraser may not be so great if your n in Scotland.

Worriedformyfriend · 23/09/2013 09:18

Hector and Martha, with Tessa at 2nd. Amos is a surname to me.

elcranko · 23/09/2013 09:36

Really like Martha.

Love Claudia & Martha.

Not really feeling those boys' names.

weaselinthenight · 24/09/2013 21:43

Amos and Claudia! But what I like best is OSpencer :-D

Bowlersarm · 24/09/2013 21:45

Hector is fine.
