So, 9 weeks to go till dc3 is due. He's a boy. We had decided on a name but have both gone off it.
I have done a list, so has DH. They are quite different? Which one do you prefer? And what is your preferred name from either list?

Mine:
Axel
Brodie
Coby
Caleb
Edward ( Eddie)
Linus
Remy
Claude or jean-Claude

DH's
Aaron
Blake
Fletcher
Fergus
Hugh or Hugo (this would not go with our surname)
Mark (we have a son called Marcus, why would be think its ok to use mark???)
Francis (frank)
Victor
Vincent

Or can you suggest a name that we both might like?

I prefer your husband's too, if I had to choose one from yours it would be Linus, from your DH's I would choose Fergus or Francis (I like Mark but not with a Marcus already).

We chose Marcus so we could shorten it to mark but never did it! I don't think 1 syllable names goes with our 1syllable surname.

I'm not predicting that you'd like them (there are plenty of names in my general "style" group that I dislike), just that your lists aren't stylistically as far apart as some others I've seen (even though of your stylistically similar names you don't like his and he doesn't like yours).

Why not go back to first principles -- get a baby names book and you make a list of all the boys' names in the world that aren't "absolute no nos", and get your DH to do the same. Given your existing lists, I bet there will be some names, if only a few, that the two lists have in common. Then use those as your shortlist.

Both lists are quite eclectic.

My fav name is Francis (dh's list, sorry!).

From your list I like Claude, Linus and Caleb.

Marcus is a pretty classic name, without being common so I would go for something similar.

Definite no no's for me would be: Axel, Brodie, Coby, Remy, Blake and Fletcher.

Christian,
Joseph,
Finlay,
Jacob,
Julian,
Nicholas

love Claude (ds) Frank and Hugo.
not sure why but Luca sprang to mind as one that might work, short but two syllables

Since you've got Marcus, why not continue the Roman theme?

Julius/Julian
Hadrian (DS has one in his class, believe it or not)
Anthony
August(us)
Guy (Gaius is a bit much these days)

I would pick from

Edward
Fergus
Victor
Vincent

Your DH's list is better. There's only one name on yours I like.

Oh good, I'm pleased I've given you more options.

I've moved on to names of popes as my theme now: I like
Urban
Fabian
Lucian
Felix
Leo(n)
John (fabulous and due a revival)
Gregory
Theodore
Zachary
Adrian

Stefan and Florian aren't pope names but they are nice.

I also like, Aaron, Fergus, and Francis of DH's list. Caleb is my favourite off yours.

I know brothers called Marcus and Alexander.

We have some cuddly toys called Marcus and Lucas!

Dh and his brothers are all Roman names - Julian, Felician and Fabian
