Hi we have a 4 year old Florence thought we'd picked a name for dd2 as Beatrice Dorothea but not sure there is a better name for her any suggestions we still have 16 weeks but decided so quick with our first and never regretted it I just assumed we'd feel he same this time.

I really like Dorothea but dh not keen but likes Dorothy any other suggestions ?

I feel EXACTLY the same. My DD1's name was never in doubt and we still really love it. DD2 is proving to be much more difficult (and fraught with family drama but that's another thread). Do you think it has something to do with the fact that you love DD1's name even more now it's her name whereas any name you think of for DD2 is just a concept because she's not born yet (don't know if I've explained that very well). It's not really fair to compare the two until DD2 is born.

FWIW I think Beatrice is really lovely and goes well with Florence. I prefer Dorothy to Dorothea and it is on my list along with Evelyn, Penelope, Margaret and Elspeth.

It seems that you're keen on 'granny chic' so maybe you'll like Esme, Joan, Audrey, Edith, Hazel?

Saffyz · 11/09/2013 19:04

Beatrice Dorothy would be a lovely name.

How about Theodora instead of Dorothea?

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 11/09/2013 19:07

I felt the same. I have 2 boys and feel like we used our "top" name on DS1.

I personally think it would be nice not to choose another name that ends with "ce", for variety.

I also like Audrey

How about:

Margaret
Marianne
Miriam
Pearl
Sarah

Oh I hadn't thought of Theodora will start saying it to the husband to see his opinion !
Yo mama your right about it being a real name and Beatrice is a concept, this is exactly the problem .also we named her after a family member so in my head that would always be my daughters name and thought we would only have her but changed our mind so its thrown me off a bit!
I love Penelope and Elspeth also but husband just isn't keen at all have been trying to persuade but he just doesn't like them, difficult man!
I may just have to wait till she arrives and hope she will be a Beatrice and have a few on reserve!
X

love theodora

DalmationDots · 11/09/2013 19:49

The second is always harder, when DC2 came along I could only think of girls names as I had used all my favourite boys names on DS by giving him two middle names! Luckily she was a girl :)

I love Theadora, it can be modern - Thea - but also has the 'granny chic' fashion with the dora bit.
I am not keen on Beatrice but no reason, just personal taste. Why are you unsure it will be right?

Minty82 · 11/09/2013 19:59

Same problem here - though DC2 may yet be a boy! Nothing feels quite as right as DD's name did. Beatrice is gorgeous though.

bymoonlight · 11/09/2013 20:47

I had the same problem. We named dd1 after a much loved family member, it was easy, we both loved the name and once we decided it just seemed right.

DD2 was almost impossible to name. We discussed it back and forth throughout the whole of the pregnancy. Ended up asking too many people and ended up with a name that we like but don't love because we listened too many opinions.

I am now pg with dd3. I am going with what I love and not asking anyone's opinion except dh. We haven't even told anyone the name (Its Florence btw! Grin ).

Weegiemum · 11/09/2013 20:50

Didn't feel this way at all.

We started from scratch with dd2 and we love her name just as much as dd1's.

gg1988 · 11/09/2013 22:35

This will sound slightly odd unless any of you have suffered with extreme hypremesis. its one that me my husband both had on our lists when ttc so seemed perfect. But then my hypremesis started and I have suffered very badly this time being effected by things from certain colours in a room making me vomit instantly to the feeling of materials like school polo tops making me feel quite sick also .I briefly did some care work while studying and looked after a lady called Beatrice for some reason I can smell the care-home when thinking about this name and its made me feel quite sick and put me off the name. I realise this sounds ridiculous but its made me feel unsure about it being the right name for her.x

Its probably not the right name then.

I would pick something different.

williaminajetfighter · 11/09/2013 22:51

Dolores? A bit like Dorothy and can be dolly for short.

gg1988 · 11/09/2013 22:52

Yes I think that's what my gut instinct is saying and still have a while to find something we both like ! I'm feeling quite pressurised by family to tell them and rushed as they want to no and also a family friend is making us a beautiful quilt with her initials on as did that for our 1st but will be sending it from the us so needs notice.
By moonlight I really wish we could just not tell anyone and feel less pressurised about it all as its starting to be another thing to worry about x

I felt the same about my DDs.

DD1 was named before I even got pregnant. I liked the name, but nothing else compared, she was always going to have her name.

DD2, we just couldn't agree a name, and she ended up having a compromise name that both of us liked, but neither loved. DD ended up having a diminutive of that name, and it really suits her.

I think I now prefer DD2s name to DD1. It was a grower and grew on me. Do you think you'll grow to love it? If so, go for it, if not keep looking.

claracluck1978 · 12/09/2013 00:33

We ate struggling as having id twwins! Have two christian nxmes anx fouiddle names if they are boys anf jut two christian names for if they ate girls. Do we just pick which order we like the names in or try to allocate one to ea ch? Id hate to use preferred names all on one baby!
