Just found out I'm having a little girl! But now down the the task of picking a name..
My dp is useless and refuses to have any input other than 'no' so I need help!
I'm struggling between Eden and esme, middle name has already been chosen (family name) and they both equally go well with our surname.
My dd1 is called isla and her name was picked before I was even pregnant!

So.. isla and Eden or isla and esme?

Esmé is my dd name. ... choose it 5 Yrs ago but had to wait till 9 months ago to use it. ...... love it. ... was a bit gutted when twilight came out though and everyone assumed I'd chosen it from there. .. Never seen the films nor read the books so had no idea. When I chose it it wasn't massively popular. ... now it is. ... couldn't think of another name I liked though. Esmé is very pretty and girly and lends itself well to all ages ie teenager and adult....... think if you would like something a little more uncommon then Eden would be better but if you don't mind about being unique then Esmé would get my vote x

Esme

  • or, to throw another idea into the mix, how about Elsie?
cardamomginger · 09/09/2013 22:28

Eden. But I'm Jewish and Eden is a common name in Israel, so it doesn't have connotations for me that it might for others. She can shorten it to Edie, which is nice. Esme sounds like an old woman. And a batty one at that.

aPseudonymToFoolHim · 09/09/2013 22:30

I LOVE Eden

elcranko · 09/09/2013 22:32

I like them both, maybe Esme slightly more. I think that Eden goes better with Isla though.

I'm open too as many suggestions as possible! I really have no preference at the moment between the two names its so hard!

Esme! (I've never met an Esme)

Bowlersarm · 11/09/2013 14:34

Esme

Tiredemma · 11/09/2013 14:35

Esme

I'm biased.

I have a beautiful little 4 day old Esme here with me now. Utterly adorable.

dimdommilpot · 11/09/2013 15:27

I vote Esme

MrsBungle · 11/09/2013 15:32

I like esme but I love Eden.

obviouslyneedsupernanny · 11/09/2013 15:33

Esme by far! It's beautiful and as others have said Eden is very masculine sounding

WithASpider · 11/09/2013 15:36

DD2 is Eden, she's the girliest girl ever!

ch1134 · 11/09/2013 15:37

Eden sounds very religious, which may be a good or bad thing for you

Diddle82 · 11/09/2013 17:09

Esme definately. Eden i think sounds like a boys name... have never met an eden and only know one esme

hawkmcqueen · 11/09/2013 18:31

Love Eden, silly DH doesn't!

Irishfairy · 19/09/2013 00:02

I also have an Isla and expecting another girl and my top name (only name) is Esme so that gets my vote!

EntWife · 19/09/2013 09:56

my dd1 is Eden so I am bias but to me esme is a little old lady with blue hair.

Jojay · 19/09/2013 10:03

Esme is softer sounding. I much prefer it.

NadiaWadia · 21/09/2013 12:25

Eden is lovely. Esme getting a little bit too popular now.

islasmummy2013 · 04/10/2013 10:41

ahh this is all so hard!
As an update -

We finally chose esme! Then oh's cousin (who's 2 weeks ahead of me and staying team yellow) declared that is her name choice and I must of stolen it!
We've stuck to our guns and said we're not changing it as I don't take well to being bullied into changing my unborn childs name.

Life is so full of drama!

I think you made the right choice with Esme. It's a beautiful name. Only very tiny problem people occasionally encounter with it is a row over how to pronounce as it has two common pronunciations. Particularly with people arguing it's French (it isn't) and giving it an accent to ensure pronunciation fits their preference.

It is such a pretty name and you should stick with it if it's the name you love. And you can't steal a name. Your oh's cousin is pregnant and possibly hormonal but if she's going to struggle with any child having the same name as her own child, she'll need to choose something totally unique. Like Habbadasha or Kerplunka or Plum.

I have 6 year old identical twins Eden & Esme ( although Esme has an accent over the end E and the name is pronounced Ezmay not Ezme ) . People always adore their names ..occasionally esme is connected to twilight ( which wsscafter her) but by other kids not adults. And about 6 months ago stumbled on a super cute girls clothing line at GILT.com called Eden &Esme ..so they have their own label!! www.gilt.com/brand/eden-esme

sonlypuppyfat · 06/10/2013 16:41

I used to use a perfume called Eden very nice to, but as a name Hmm

AmberDextrous · 06/10/2013 16:57

I think Esme is nice
Really not keen on Eden for a girl though it seems to be growing in popularity
