Constance Or Emilia?

Also, (getting 2 threads for the price of 1) what do you think of Dorothy as a middle name? It's the name of both of our paternal grandmothers so would be a nice way of combining our families but tbh don't particularly like it, but not sure that's the point of middle names?
What do you think? Does it go with either of our names, would use Connie, or Mia or Mimi as shortenings I think.

Both Constance and Emilia are fine names to use.

I personally like your idea of Dorothy for a middle name, even if you are not that keen on Dorothy as a name. I think it is a nice gesture and I would definitely use it.

Much prefer Constance. Think Dorothy works well as a middle name.
Like Coco as a nickname.

Seaweedy · 09/09/2013 11:01

Constance is lovely. There are just so, so many little Amelias, EMilias, MIllies and Mias around, even though all are pretty names.

Thepowerof3 · 09/09/2013 11:03

Cecilia, mixture of both!

jenster1976 · 09/09/2013 14:38

I love Cecily but Its another one that DH has vetoed! I think my preference is Constance mainly as there's fewer of them around but feeling happier we've at least managed to find 2 options we both like, it's been a struggle!

Constance, there is a 2 year old Constance at a play group we attend, she is just stunning.

I really wanted Emilia for dd, but worried I would be condemning her to a lifetime of people mishearing and calling her Amelia instead, so rejected it for that reason. I do think it's really pretty though.

HappyJustToBe · 09/09/2013 14:46

Constance Dorothy is lovely and definitely a nice gesture for the middle name.

Thepowerof3 · 09/09/2013 15:30

Constance is lovely

Constance is a beautiful name.

As posters said upthread, there are so many "Amelias" (and derivatives) that the poor girl will spend all her life spelling her name.

LeoandBoosmum · 09/09/2013 16:11

Hmmm, Constance immediately makes me think Constance Carroll (remember, the awful cheap make up?) It also sounds a bit Barbara Cartland-ish. Emilia is nice and I think Millie is a nice nn. I can't say I like Dorothy, so ninnyish imo. Even if it is a middle name, your DC would still have to disclose it on legal forms etc. I hate my middle name so it does make a difference, I think.I wouldn't thank you if you gave me the middle name Dorothy, even if it was a tribute. Did your paternal grandmothers have middle names? Maybe they'd be nicer and you could use both their middle names as middle names for your daughter?

LeoandBoosmum · 09/09/2013 16:13

Emile is a nice alternative to Emilia/ Amelia although I think it's only used for boys, not unisex...

LeoandBoosmum · 09/09/2013 16:15

I hate to sound so negative...but my nan used to call condensed milk...connie honnie...

Seaweedy · 09/09/2013 20:22

Constance Dorothea has a nice ring to it...?

Purplelooby · 09/09/2013 21:19

I love Constance - it's on my list if DC2 is a girl.

AuntyPippaAndUncleHarry · 10/09/2013 05:55

Constance Dorothy. Emilia is pretty too but will inevitably be shortened to Em which is not very nice IMO.
