Carmel or Jennifer?

This is for a friend who is expecting DD1 in the next month.

She is really torn on these two names - I have told her to wait and see what she thinks when the baby is born.

Anyway, just to canvas opinions - what would you go with? Surname is two syllable, starts with S.

They're so different in style. I'd go with Jennifer. Not keen on Carmel (reminds me of Hollyoaks and a posh Camel), love Carmen though.

Jennifer it's a proper name

Carmel is dreadful sorry, here in Ireland it would be common among women in the 60s and 70s and very much an 'oul wans' name. I don't know a single Carmel under 60 :)

I'm not keen on Jennifer (horrible girl at school) but it's infinitely preferable up Carmel. Hope that gives you a n idea of how much I dislike Carmel.

Jennifer. It's dated but still nice. Carmel is not a nice name. I like lots of Spanish names but not that one.

Sorry I was thinking about Carmen obviously. I don't like Carmel either. It's religious I think.

Funnily enough, although I don't like Carmel, I LOVE Carmen.

I know a Carmel and she hates her name.

I'm Irish too and Carmel is a 'Doreen' type name in Ireland, 65 year old nosey neighbour. Awful.
