Nancy and Florence

What do you think? My dd1 is Nancy and we really love Florence for dd2 who is due in November. The only problem is that these are the names of David Cameron's daughters! Is it really obvious and do you think it would be a problem? Have tested it on friends and lots had no idea but don't want to do it and then find everyone thinks we are huge DC fans! Thanks for your help.

Lovely names. David Cameron won't be PM for much longer by the looks of things and people will forget his dc's names soon enough I would think.

Nancy

Florence is Ok but I am of an age where I think of the Magic Roundabout rather than the beautiful Italian city

P.S

One of my favourite girls names is Margaret/Maggie, but that's no reflection on my political leanings

OrthodonticUrticaria · 07/09/2013 17:27

Love those names. Really lovely, and they go well together.

And I had no idea that DC's kids had those names.

LoanRanger · 07/09/2013 18:54

Thanks for your help! I'm glad it doesn't seem to obvious as we've been struggling for a name we both love as much as Nancy.

Florence is nowhere near as nice as Nancy.

How about Iris? Or Edith/Edie?

LoanRanger · 07/09/2013 23:09

Iris is lovely, hadn't thought of that! Have suggested it to Dh and he isn't keen. Boo!

Florence is beautiful. Go for it. Thus speaks a socialist.

scarlettsmummy2 · 07/09/2013 23:16

I have a Florence and haven't met another one yet, and people often comment on it being nice.

northernlurker · 08/09/2013 00:00

Oh dear - I though David Cameron straight away and it would put me off but then I am a dyed in the wool leftie.

errrr

Nancy and Clementine

Nancy and Louisa

Nancy and Beatrice (Dd3's name)

Nancy and Ottilie

Nancy and May

Nancy and Dulcie

?

Viviennemary · 08/09/2013 00:05

There's nothing at all wrong with Florence. But there are a lot of names I like better. Iris for example.

ShadowSummer · 08/09/2013 00:59

I got the David Cameron connection, but I wouldn't assume that another parent had called their DDs Nancy and Florence because they were fans of Cameron.

Not a fan of Florence as a name though.

sleepingbeautiful · 08/09/2013 04:10

Nancy and...

Flora
Margot
Clara
Harriet
Marigold
Helena
Cecily
Margaret (then they could be Nancy and Peggy like Swallows and Amazons :D )

BikeRunSki · 08/09/2013 04:16

I immediately thought that they are both place names. Not in a good or bad way, just that they are. I knew David Cameron had. Florence, didn't know he had a Nancy.

bananamummy · 08/09/2013 07:50

I too think David Cameron as well as the towns in Italy and France.

HenriettaChicken · 08/09/2013 09:31

Ah yes, my grandma is called Marguerite (Peggy) and her sister was called Nancy!

BuntyPenfold · 08/09/2013 09:48

I didn't think of DC until you explained.

I think Nancy and Florence is nice, but Nancy and Patsy, Nancy and Margot, are even nicer.

HopeS01 · 08/09/2013 10:43

Florence is beautiful! My sister is Florrie and I love it! She loves it too and everybody always comments on how beautiful it is. I've never met another Florrie (despite The Fimbles) and it has suited her throughout her whole life.

I wouldn't worry about DC! Honestly! Not many people will make the connection now, and in the near future the names of his children will be forgotten!

Lovely names :) go for it!

Saffyz · 08/09/2013 13:21

I'd think you like the "nce" sound.
