Melody - it'll just get shortened to Mel won't it?

Or is there a way around that? We love Melody but I'm less keen on Mel.

I'm planning on naming my DD (due December) Melody, so obviously I like. Don't really see it as a 'chavvy' name, my main worry is that is that it's a bit too hippyish. People suggested Elodie to me too, don't think it would go that we'll with the Scottish surname!

If not Melody... How about Harmony?

I know a Melody. She's three. She's always Melody.

I wouldn't do it if you hate the nickname as, of course, your teenage daughter may choose to be known as Mel. But I don't think it's inevitable.
