How is this Gaelic name pronounced...

He's the lead male actor in About Time, the new Richard Curtis film. He also appeared in one of Charlie Brookers Black Mirror episodes. Just wondered how the name was pronounced. It may well be glaringly obvious, in which case in advance!

This Domhnall is Irish though (he's Brendan Gleeson's son) and it's definitely two syllables in Ireland.

Oh I didn't realise Onthebottom, apologies. I thought Gaelic was a better way of putting it since I wasn't sure of the exact origins of the name, I know the actor is Irish but it could have orignated in Scotland.

My ex boyfriend was a Domhnall, Irish, pronounced Doh-nal, or Doh-nl. Nice name. He was good looking and intellectual. I can't use the name for baby3, or DH would be very upset!

because it is used more often to mean scots gaelic, and its got colonial connotations, which obviously we don't like so much. If you speak Irish is Gaeilge, if you speak English you translate it as Irish. not gaelic, its just not the name of the language.
