I would love some help coming up with a name for DD2 please!
Our surname starts with H and is one syllable.

our criteria is:

No names starting with S or H
2 or 3 syllables
does not end in an ee sound (like Sophie, Mary, Katie)

the middle name will be Gill or Gillian for family reasons (hands tied on this one)

Our two favourite names atm are Imogen (which I've gone off recently)
Georgia (which dh has gone off since royal baby)
Pippa (until our polish friend laughed at us as surname can sound rude)

any other suggestions are MOST welcome!

No S or H
2 or 3 syllables
no --ee sound (and yet your DH came up with Stephanie and Kayleigh?)
No U names either, tbh, or her initials will be UGH! Even A (AGH?) could be a bit odd.
And I wouldn't do J either, not with Gill(ian) as a middle name.

Lydia Gillian H-
Violet Gillian H-
Eleanor Gillian H-
Eliza Gillian H-
Emilia Gillian H-
Miriam Gillian H-
Adelaide Gillian H-
Cassandra Gillian H-
Alicia Gillian H-
Meredith Gillian H-
Beatrice Gillian H-

Sorry copied the rules over to focus my mind!

Stephanie or Kayleigh?

I have no words! You are doomed OP.

(just don't choose Pippa, it has filthy meanings in about 5 languages)

BTW, Jillian looks nicer with a J, I think....less 1980s?

Bearandcub · 08/09/2013 06:04

What about adding another middle name?

So...?

Ruth Gillian May H
Vivienne Lara Gill H
Elizabeth Gillian Kate H
Faith Phoebe Gillian H
Corinne Gillian H

You get the gist, even if you don't like the names.

Oh and I'd consider 2 middle names we did this to use a family name that didn't fit.

Eg Georgia Kate Gillian Hunt
Or Imogen Victoria Gillian Hunt

Yes more if a mouthful but means the middle name, (which isn't very nice!!) has less bearing on the name you'll actually be using.

Lancelottie · 08/09/2013 09:45

I think Beattie has a good solution with Charlotte Gillian it flows nicely and sounds good with Sophie, and even Neanderthals-- OP's DH will have heard of it.

sashh · 08/09/2013 11:50

Sorry but 'Imogen Gillian' - is like a character from a kids book, a friend of Pippa Longstocking (Pippa is rude in many languages).

Personally I think a definite end of word sound goes better with Gillian as a middle name, so

Pauline Gillian - no
Paula Gillian - no
Paulette Gillian - sounds better.

BTW I don't particularly like any of the names above, just the sound of the last letter with Gillian.

Maybe

Elizabeth
Bernadette

Bearandcub · 08/09/2013 15:12

Philippa?

fiishfingers · 08/09/2013 16:27

Rebecca Louise Josie

Kayleigh is ghastly but Stephanie is a lovely name. Timeless and classy, I think.

Lancelottie · 09/09/2013 08:32

...yes, but it starts with S and ends with -ie!

If you have to have Gillian, I'd rule out any J names and anything ending in n, as the echo sounds odd.

I would suggest Iris to go with Sophie, but then she'd be IrisH, which doesn't work.

Can you acquire an offended relative of your own (preferably called Clara, Merryn, Freya or something close to them...) and insist that their feelings would be terribly hurt if they aren't included?

PeacockPlumage · 09/09/2013 08:42

Siblings of Sophies that I know:

Tamsin Gillian
Harriet Gillian
Ava Gillian
Aoife Gillian
May Gillian
Nadia Gillian

I think Gillian is a pretty hard name to jave to wotk on. I would be v tempted to have an additional middle name tbh.

telsa · 09/09/2013 09:29

Vanessa, Yvette, Yvonne, Bridget, Cora, Tamara, Amanda

NotYoMomma · 09/09/2013 18:55

haha someone suggested Imogen Victoria Gillian - thank you! DH suggested this himself as Victoria is my name Wink outs self

that is the front runner but I am also liking so many of these options! I wish I had free reign, I am considering taking it anyway and attempting the teary just given birth name suggestion!

I asked him for a list (im due next month!) of his top 5 names and he has not been helpful at all. Angry

I think Freya works really well with Gillian as middle name and as a sister for Sophie.

He can't not have heard of it - he's heard of Friday, hasn't he? Friday is named after the goddess Freya.

Lancelottie · 12/09/2013 09:52

I'd go at it the other way round, OP, if he can't think of five names you don't hate. Why does he get to veto yours, whereas you need to pick one of his?

Give him your top five instead (top ten if you're feeling kind). If he claims to hate them all, he at least needs to justify why.

It still rankles a teeny bit that DH vetoed Phoebe, Verity and Felicity for DD, but whenever we meet a child called one of those he'll say 'That's a nice name. DD would have suited that...'
