Hello, our baby girl is due in a few weeks. We have a little boy called James and have now narrowed it down to 3 choices for a name for his sister. It took us a long time to come up with these as we just couldn't agree on girls names at all!

Which do you think is nicest?

Matilda (nn tilly)
Jasmine
Eleanor (nn probably Elsie as there seem to be just so many Ellies around!)

If anyone has any suggestions along similar lines, would love to hear them. Thanks! Smile

I think they're all lovely. My DD2 is Eleanor, and Matilda (also nn Tilly) was on our shortlist as well. We didn't have a clear favourite, but found that once she was born she just looked like an Eleanor; you might find the same.

Along similar lines:

Isobel/Isabel/Isabelle
Anabelle
Elspeth
Catherine
Caitlin
Clara
Esme

Good luck :)

Love Eleanor & Matilda.

Others ...

Charlotte
Martha
Eliza

Jasmine is gorgeous. Eleanor is nice. Can't stand Matilda.

I know a James and Jasmine brother and sister. Have always liked those names together.

Eleanor or Matilda.

However I would use the nn's Nell and Tilda if I needed to shorten them (obvs other people may still call her Ellie or Tilly but I would have to grin and bear it)

Oh, sorry, just seen you wanted siggestions too.

On seeing James, my first thoughts were Emily or Molly as I think these go well.

On seeing your list, id suggest Flora, Harriet and Dorothy (Dotty/Dot)

Matilda. Love it

Thank you for your help, seems like most of you like Eleanor or Matilda. I like the Esme and Eliza suggestions as well. Oh dear, I wonder if it would just be easier to draw the name from a hat, or alternatively just wait and see what she looks like and then choose the name which we think suits her best. I just panic about her being born and not having a name because we can't make our minds up!

I've always like Eleanor - it was one of the names on our list, if we'd ever had a girl! We named our son James, but started calling him Jamie 'for short' Smile as a baby and it stuck! He's 21 now...
I really like Esme as well.

Thank you very much for your suggestions, I think we've actually come up with a name now. None of which are on my list, but we like it nonetheless. It's Imogen Smile

Good choice - you'll have to change your mumsnet nickname now though Wink
