Love it! Do you remember Aiden Shaw from sex and the city ?

lagoonhaze · 30/08/2013 20:41

I spell it Aidan.

Lovely name

GrandstandingBlueTit · 30/08/2013 20:42

I like it. It's DH's name.

You will have people tell you that Aidan is the only genuine spelling, but it is not. I think Aiden looks much nicer.

Rhubarbgarden · 30/08/2013 20:57

I like it but I prefer Aidan.

dimdommilpot · 30/08/2013 21:16

My brother is Aidan. I love the name.

Alisvolatpropiis · 30/08/2013 21:31

squoosh · 30/08/2013 23:19

mrspaddy · 30/08/2013 23:30

DramaAlpaca · 30/08/2013 23:32

I like it a lot, but it's much nicer if you spell it Aidan.

qumquat · 31/08/2013 00:55

Love it, but agree it should be spelled Aidan. It's a Northumbrian saint's name.

NoComet · 31/08/2013 00:58

It's lovely I'm very biased I know a lovely Aidan.

I'm not going to knit pick the spelling, DD has the less comin version of her name.

NoComet · 31/08/2013 01:01

Common, Please don't nit pick my spelling Blush

WeAreEternal · 31/08/2013 01:05

There are a few Aidan/Aiden's at DS's school, it's seems to be quite a popular name.

MrsMongoose · 31/08/2013 02:05

Love it, because of SATC. Was on Team Big though!

RoastedCouchPotatoes · 31/08/2013 13:49

I personally prefer Aidan, but overall I think it's a lovely name.

badtime · 31/08/2013 14:12

It was originally Áedán (ancient version) or Aodhán (modern), so arguing over whether 'Aidan' or 'Aiden' is correct is pretty pointless.

However, I must point out that St Aidan was probably Irish, although he is venerated for his work in Northumbria.

GabbyGabriella · 31/08/2013 22:55

Aidan is a lovely name, Gaelic without being obviously Irish. I knew the name from the actor Aidan Quinn with those amazing blue eyes (in 'Desperately Seeking Susan' with Madonna many years ago).

Definitely 'an' at end like Kieran, Ciaran, Declan etc. I think the 'an' ending is a diminutive?

I think it looks wrong with 'en' at the end like a verb - eaten, given. taken etc.
Thumbs up for Aidan. Well known without being too popular.

apprenticemamma · 31/08/2013 23:41

love it...was vetoed by dh for ds 1 though. Spelling Aidan is classier imho. (This time round it's gonna be a different Irish name , Aidan still not allowed by dh! ) .

Sunnysummer · 01/09/2013 07:02

Aidan/en is a name to me that does have some stereotypes attached, so it would be off my list (as would Rupert on the other end of the scale).

That said, it is a great sounding and classic name, and anyone who is terribly prejudiced about first names is probably not someone you want to be friends for / work with anyway - so I'd say if you love it, go for it!

Littlecherublegs · 01/09/2013 12:04

Love it!
Would be on our shortlist but our surname begins with 'A' so it doesn't sound right unfortunately.
Like Hayden too.

claretandamberforever · 01/09/2013 12:11

its the best name EVER (but spelt Aidan). called DS1 it 17 years ago and love it as much now as I did then.
