Gregor for our son?

I like simple boys names that are quite 'manly' and not too common or too pretentious. Any other ideas welcome. Really not keen on the Alfie, Archie, Oscar type names or anything very modern.

Thanks!

That's a lovely name. I had a massive crush on a very gorgeous Gregor at university, so might be a bit biased!

EntWife · 30/08/2013 08:11

have you read Game of Thrones? Gregor is the name of the most brutal murderer in the series. seriously not a nice bloke.

might not be an issue for you and if so, fair enough but expect comments.

MortifiedAdams · 30/08/2013 08:12

I like Gregor. It is a name on our list. Other names on our list are
Griff[in]
Travis
Scott
Tristan

Lovely.

OverTheFieldsAndFarAway · 30/08/2013 08:27

I can only say/read/hear it with a Russian accent for some reason. It's a very strong name, lovely.

BikeRunSki · 30/08/2013 08:29

Cool name. I have not seen/ read Game of Thrones.

Travis v. popular with U3s round here.

I like Gregor a lot! Names I'd consider to be in a similar vein (serious, not too widespread or modern) would be Innes, Fraser, Malcolm.

Oldandcobwebby · 30/08/2013 10:11

Gregor turned into a gigantic insect in Kafka's short story "Metamorphosis". I like it!

FranSanDisco · 30/08/2013 10:16

I like it alot. The actor Gregor Fisher plays Rab C. Nesbit who I love but need DH to translate for me Grin.

Monkeyandanimal · 30/08/2013 10:28

Gregor is on my list. good strong name, not too 'try hard' but not too popular.

KatyPutTheCuttleOn · 30/08/2013 10:30

I prefer Gregory but Gregor is also a good name.

soontobeslendergirl · 30/08/2013 11:17

It was down to Gregor or Craig for our first son. I really loved both, we picked Craig but I still hanker for Gregor occasionally.

In the same vein:

Moray/Murray
Ross
Nairn
Keir
Kerr
Torin
Cairn
Callum
Stewart
Logan

soontobeslendergirl · 30/08/2013 11:17

oh, and Alastair.

Auntfini · 30/08/2013 11:19

Makes me think of Gregor samsa!

MrsMongoose · 30/08/2013 14:35

I'd stick a Y on it. Love Gregory, whereas Gregor feels a bit evil genius for me.

LesserSpottedNeckSnake · 30/08/2013 14:38

I like Gregor. It's strong, unusual without being too out there, and sounds best with a Scottish accent

Swishyswashy · 30/08/2013 18:45

Thanks guys- general consensus is good name with a murderous edge. Not ideal for my precious baby but I'm still quite keen...

Game of Thrones has ruined the name for me too. How about Sandor?

Makes me think of the Game of Thrones character too!

KoalaFace · 02/09/2013 13:14

Another one who thinks of Game of Thrones' Gregor Clegane.

Horrible character. Manly though!
