Struggling with boys names

We've picked the name if our baby is a girl but are really having difficulty choosing a boys name! Wondered what people thought of Morris, Otto and Joel? Edward (Ted) is a safe option not sure if it's a bit boring. Also really like Oscar but it seems so popular at the moment.

I really like Oscar and I don't know that many. What about Noah or Isaac?

soontobeslendergirl · 28/08/2013 11:45

Not keen on Morris. Ted or Joel are nice. Oscar is apparently popular but I only know one and he is 10. What about:

Austin
Miles
Saul
Jude

Littlecherublegs · 28/08/2013 21:21

Love Joel and Oscar!
Think Oscar is quite popular though.
Don't like the others you mention.

How about:
Jared
Caleb
Gabriel
Nathan
Leon
Shaun
Drew
Zachary
Aidan

I don't like Morris. I know a baby Otto and love it - cool name! Edward is lovely and timeless.

Bowlersarm · 28/08/2013 21:23

Don't like Morris. (Nasally old man!)

I like Joel. And Oscar.

kiwik · 28/08/2013 22:38

I adore Otto, but it was vetoed by DH. I used it on the cat instead. It's possibly my favourite name.
I like Morris, but it's not a name I'd actually choose.

How about Vincent, Benedict, Dominic, Nicholas?

CornishFirstTimer22 · 29/08/2013 11:15

I love Oscar too - but same concerns about it being popular (no7 on latest ONS list.

We also like Albie (nn for Albert).

Also nice are Sebastian, Nathanial and Reuben.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 29/08/2013 19:46

I don't like Morris
I like Otto a bit more

Joel is way out ahead of the other two

What about:

Leon
Levi
Saul
Evan
Asa
Matthew
Michael

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 29/08/2013 19:47

I also second Dominic

or

what about

Gregory

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 29/08/2013 22:05

Or

Francis

elQuintoConyo · 29/08/2013 22:11

A friend of my DSis has a little boy called Dominic, nn Domi. Someone once asked her, 'why did you call your son Domino?'
"Domi! No!"

Otto is cool, Edward timeless, I quite like it. I'm arguing about Oscar on another babyname thread - I love it. I don't know ANY others.

Morris is a bit dated for me, sorry. Joel a bit... American. Not that that's a bad thing, god I sound stupid Blush

niffernaffer · 30/08/2013 08:20

I like Morris, actually. Though prefer the Maurice spelling. Its different and sweet and there won't be any others at playgroup.

Joel and Otto are nice too. Could you use all three?

buttercrumble · 30/08/2013 08:23

Love Teddy it's an amazing name for a boy Smile

Sunnysummer · 30/08/2013 08:29

Morris is definitely on the grabddad side of granddad chic, but its already growing on me! I also prefer the Maurice spelling, but either will actually be very cute on a little boy, good for a grown man and definitely unusual.

With family in Germany I'm less keen on Otto, as it feels a bit middle-aged to me (though I know it isn't in the UK!), Oscar is lovely though a bit more common than your others, and I know a lovely Joel so have always quite liked that too Smile

Spookey80 · 30/08/2013 08:35

To me otto is very 'try hard'.

AmsterdamEv · 10/09/2013 08:19

Thanks for yor feedback! We found out we are having a boy (!) and are currently thinking of calling him Elliot. Any thoughts?

OP posts:
Saffyz · 10/09/2013 18:05

Elliot is a great name, very nice. I like Joel too.

Morris is a surnamey spelling so I'd use Maurice instead.

Suzietwo · 10/09/2013 19:57

Morris (although Maurice) is excellent

Layl77 · 10/09/2013 21:02

I actually like Morris I think it's really cute and nice on an older boy/man.
Loads if Isaac and Noah's here but not so many Oscar which is lovely

Keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 10/09/2013 21:18

Congratulations! I LOVE Joel, and Elliot is lovely too :)

Rhubarbgarden · 10/09/2013 22:21

Otto is my favourite out of those.
