Caspar

We had kind of decided on Francis for a boy, but I am just not 100% convinced (partly because dh and I pronounce it differently, which I know would irritate me).

DH suggested Caspar this morning. I like it a lot, and am not bothered by the friendly ghost association, as I think it's not something that this generation will really know about.

Would be grateful for any thoughts.

I really like it, unusual but recognisable.

mrsmindcontrol · 26/08/2013 18:48

Love it!

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/08/2013 18:55

I like it. I know a Caspar, he's about 7 I think.

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 26/08/2013 20:09

I love it!

I have very pale skin and I used to get bullied and nicknamed Caspar. I know what you mean about the generation thing but I'm only 23. It will only take one cruel child to sing the Caspar theme tune and it will stick!

KateCroydon · 26/08/2013 20:17

Much prefer Francis, and Frank is an excellent nickname.

getmeoutofthismadhouse · 26/08/2013 20:21

I love Caspar. If I had another I would consider it.

MissPlumBroughtALadder · 26/08/2013 20:22

Caspar or Casper?

Layl77 · 26/08/2013 20:50

I like it

pygmy · 26/08/2013 20:56

Love Caspar and much prefer it to Francis, which will be shortened to Frankie or Frank.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 26/08/2013 21:19

See, I don't mind the shortening Frankie, but don't like Frank, it just sounds middle-aged to me, and I just can't love it.

Home, sorry to hear that, it sucks. Baby is likely to have quite olive skin though, so don't think that will be an issue.

I think Caspar is the "correct" spelling, although it would probably make my Dad pronounce it Cas-PAR which would annoy me...

Frankie is on par with Ronnie, Reggie, Vinnie etc.

Yes, westcoast, the ghost. As everyone in our generation would say, and kids would look blankly at them.

When my friend named her ds Rory 5 years ago, loads of people warned her off because of the racing car. I've not heard anyone say it for literally years now...

Thanks everyone by the way. I was a bit worried it's a bit try-hard. Boy's names are so hard!

I much prefer Francis, Frankie is a great nickname.

Caspar seems very.....wispy.

DalmationDots · 27/08/2013 15:49

Love it, makes me imagine a very handsome boy :)

hetsto · 27/08/2013 16:33

Caspar is a lovely name - classical and the ghost reference will very quickly be outdated!

squoosh · 27/08/2013 16:37

Casper the Ghost has been a cartoon character since the 1940s, I don't think it's going to dip out of popular culture particularly soon. Not saying that should put you off, but it will be a reference that pops up a lot.
