We decided on Evelyn for a girl. (no idea what to do if its a boy) what middle names would go nicely? only 16 weeks so we have plenty of time. Grin

Evelyn is lovely

Do you mind the inevitable shortenings - Eve/Evie?

If Evelyn isn't already a family name, then for a second name, I think it's nice to choose a name of someone you love or admire

Or what about?

Evelyn Rose
Evelyn Joy
Evelyn Hope
Evelyn Rae

For a boy

What about

Evan

barebranches · 26/08/2013 18:11

dont mind the shortenings... i know they are really popular though!!
yes i agree with family names just none we really like. Its soooo tough choosing a name.

If you like Ellen as a family name how about Evelyn Nell?

Eggwhisk · 26/08/2013 18:24

We pronounce our dd as Ev-a-lin, her friends call her Ev which I quite like. At home she is Evie though

barebranches · 26/08/2013 18:26

Nell is nice... but the too Ns together.... so glad i have months yet to decide this. plus going to find out gender just in case i dont have to stress over boys names!

Yes plenty of time! I think Ev-a-Lin is the traditional female version of the name, I'm pretty sure eve-lyn is the masculine version.

Ihatepeas · 26/08/2013 19:59

My dd is Evelyn Rose (Ev-a-lyn) she is called Evie most of the time at the moment. I love the name and get lots of positive remarks about it.

We chose Rose as her middle name after a much loved family member but I think it is so pretty with Evelyn and as a poster above said it looks gorgeous written down.

buttercrumble · 26/08/2013 20:04

Love it

littlestgirlguide · 26/08/2013 21:15

My Dd is Evelyn Isobel (eve-lyn) and I think is a beautiful name.

JeanPaget · 26/08/2013 21:20

I love Evelyn. The one I know pronounces it ev-a-lyn and it gets shortened to Ev.

Hard to know what would work as a middle name without a rough idea of how long your surname is imho, but I think Evelyn Rose or Evelyn Grace are nice.

PatTheHammer · 26/08/2013 21:24

My DD is an Evelyn (7) it's a family name and we loved it.

We have Charlotte as a middle name after my great grandmother.

She is Evie to her friends at school but we liked the fact that when she is a bit older she can choose to be Eve, Evie or Evelyn depending on how she feels at the time.

FantaIsFine · 26/08/2013 21:26

Evelyn's a beautiful name, as are the abbreviations. It IS also actually a boy name too by the way - one of the heroes in a favourite novel of mine is Evelyn/Eve...(Georgette Heyer, False Colours)...

Franykins · 28/08/2013 09:46

This is my all time favourite name for a girl, I have loved it for the last 10 years and always planned on using it. However, now I am pregnant for the first time and it won't be our daughters name Sad Two of DP friends have Evie's and someone I really don't like has used it too Sad also it is becoming more popular (not a massive problem but I grew up with a fairly unused name and wanted the same for my children) So although its still at the top of my list we have gone for something else.

Middle name (which we are still using as it is my mums middle name) is Pearl, Evelyn Pearl I think sounds beautiful.

imustbepatient · 28/08/2013 14:02

This is our DD's name too (said eve-lyn) and middle name is Elizabeth as a family name.

Other middle names we considered were Lucy, Laura, Isobel, Rosa.

Lots of lovely names being suggested on this thread, I'm sure you'll find one you love.

LesserSpottedNeckSnake · 28/08/2013 14:07

I love Evelyn. How about:

Evelyn Anne
Evelyn Claire
Evelyn Georgia
Evelyn Harriet
Evelyn Jane

barebranches · 28/08/2013 14:21

thanks everyone!
