A very close firnd has just had twins ( 4 days ago) one girl one boy. She is beside herself because they still have not chosen names for either of them. So oh wise mumsnetters......any suggestions?

She likes quirky and old fashioned names, but is open to absoloutley anything!

Thanks in advance :)

Wow,what lovely considerate reactions to Opal after it's actually been chosen. Classy. Has made me want a third dd just to call it Opal.

Moxiegirl · 24/08/2013 22:28

Opal is a lovely name, rolls off the tongue and is such a beautiful stone. I was under the impression it was a lucky stone?!

Until it's on the birth certificate then it's still up for change. It seems that choosing something before bed time was higher on the list of priorities than actually choosing a nice name.

We are just being honest. If someone already had a child named Opal, I wouldn't have been as blunt. If you like it then use it.

FingersCrossedLegsNot · 24/08/2013 22:37

Opal Seraphina has a nice ring to it!

Henry Alexander
Opal Josephine

MeerkatMerkin · 24/08/2013 22:44

Cleo and Caspar.

soontobeslendergirl · 24/08/2013 22:46

....and how sane is it to have a third (previously unwanted) child and give it a horrible name to spite some people on an internet forum that you don't know and will never meet? Hmm Over dramatic much?

absentmindeddooooodles · 24/08/2013 22:47

Why is that so hard to believe? Shes been on endless baby namw sites, bought tje books, made lists and had her favourites, but didnt think the names she previously picked suiyed them ( which id fair enough)

Edward was always on her list. Opal she has never come across and really noticed but thought it really suited her dd.

Mumsnet seems like a perfectly reasonable place to come for baby names! Tjeres been some lovely suggestions and of course she would not just choose one for tje sake of it being dont before bedtime. I think everyone else reading this gor the gist that the comment made about it was more in jest, bit that shenis becomimg uncomfortable not having names for them.

Thanks everyone for your lovely suggestions,

For the record she is still going with opal and henry which i think are great names. Im still sat here writing out possibilities for middle names while she feeds dts. :)

Beautiful names, many congratulations to your friend.

Ruprekt · 24/08/2013 22:51

Opal means tears or sadness....something to do with the stone shrinking and falling out of it's ring clasp setting resulting in a sad bride.

Have never liked Henry.......Hmm

My twins would be called

Beatrice Oriele

And

Theo Rufus Benjamin SmileSmile

sarahtigh · 24/08/2013 22:55

for me Charlotte or Caroline and then Alasdair or perhaps Alexander

fiddlemethis · 24/08/2013 22:55

Can I just put forward Rafferty for the boy, I love that name!!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 24/08/2013 22:56

Opal the stone is not unlucky. This whole superstition stemmed from a novel Anne of Geierstein By Walter Scott, and a rumour possibly started by Diamond companies to damage the opposition.
They are beautiful rocks. That's all.

baskingseals · 24/08/2013 23:07

What about Opal and Peter? I think Peter means rock, which would be a nice connection to Opal.

baskingseals · 24/08/2013 23:08

Or Jasper? Maybe that's a bit much though, but it is a lovely name.

largeginandtonic · 24/08/2013 23:10

Hubert and Bunty. Awesome names.

herethereandeverywhere · 24/08/2013 23:11

Opal and Henry are quite car themed to my mind (European name for Vauxhall/General Motors and Henry Ford) but I'm sure that wouldn't occur to most people.

largeginandtonic · 24/08/2013 23:13

Arthur and Mabel/Florence.

Albert and Dulcie

argylesocks · 25/08/2013 06:44

Opal Ramona! I think that sounds lovely. Lots of things go with Henry... Edward is a bit dull but perfectly nice. Henry Jasper?

mummanj · 25/08/2013 08:10

Thanks for the update op. My favourites still Matilda and Edward, Tilly and Eddie so cute. X

absentmindeddooooodles · 25/08/2013 09:22

Opal ramona
Opal sophia

Henry edward
