Girl names that aren't very girly.

I am pregnant with a girl. I don't like girl names generally.

Can you give me an idea of any that are normalish but not too girly?

I've been struggling to think of many - I quite like Megan, Fran, Ruth etc.

Thanks for any help.

Love this thread. Am similarly looking for girls names that are not too girly. Love Lanceolate's list. This thread finally got my DH talking about names and think we might have agreed on a name!

My ideas are:
Anna
Hannah
Iris
Megan
Charlotte
Esther
Hope
Ruth
Rachel

just checking back in - thanks. love ruth and hazel emsyj, exactly what i'm after. i think anything that ends in a is out for me and anything that's more than 2 syllables.

Megan is currently my top I think.
I like Jodie too.
I like Fran but not "Frances".
Also like Seren.
My DSD is Amber, so that's out. But I like it.

Loving all the suggestions.

Was also thinking that I like Mel (possibly short for Melanie) which is very normal but very, very underused.

I'm not sure I like boys names that have been just made female - like Roberta, Thomasina etc.

I think Hazel is lovely, but so underused! Hazel eyes are just gorgeous Smile

Dern - maybe too unusual, but I met one recently.
Hazel is lovely.

I love the name Amber OP - it clashes with our surname a bit, otherwise it would have been top of my list.

Also like Aisling and Cerys (but have a friend called Cerys so would have been weird to use that). DH loves Ramona, which fails to comply with the 'no "a" names' rule BUT Ramona Quimby is the least girly girl ever so worth a mention! Grin

emsyj · 15/08/2013 21:37

Our cat is called Megan - we must have quite similar tastes! Smile
