Love love love the name Mya. Think it's beautiful. But have been agonising about whether it works alongside surname which is ryan. Is it too much? Can I get away with it?

How is it said? Like maya or like mia?

As in sounds just like ryan, without the "n"

Mya is a weird spelling, prefer maya. Maya Ryan is a bit of a mouthful, sorry.

If you love a name then use it stuff what anyone thinks. Once people have met her they won't think anything of it.

I haven't seen it spelt like that before, I'd be tempted to go with maya but as I said go with your heart.

Congrats!

Hmmm, I think it's a bit much tbh. Sorry. Although I taught a Lara Denaro once (who was fabulous if anyone who knows her is on here!) which also rhymes but sounds pretty great. So maybe you can get away with it!

That wasn't helpful at all, was it!

No I like! It's got a nice lilt to it :-)

I love names that have a good rhythm. Mya Ryan sounds cool.

Maia or Maya are much better, imho.

Mya looks like you are trying too hard and will set your DD up for a lifetime of "No it's M-y-a".

SpeedwellBlue · 15/08/2013 15:19

I prefer the Mia spelling as Mya reminds me of Myra, which is a nice name but with not nice connotations. That's probably just me though, so go ahead if you like it.
