Question: is Xavier always pronounced "Egg-zavier" or is it also pronounced "Zavier" ?

X-zaviour is how I've been pronouncing the name. No idea if its right.

night1971 · 11/08/2013 22:10

Zavier

it's never pronounced egg-zavier as far as i'm aware... that's a bit weird

i would pronounce it zavier

YonilyDevotedToYou · 11/08/2013 22:11

I have always pronounced it 'Zavier' which I think is much nicer- didn't even realise 'ex-savier' was a possible pronunciation until recently!

PeriodMath · 11/08/2013 22:17

It is definitely Zavier!

I knew a Xavier when I was growing up. Pronounced 'Saviour' or just 'Save'.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 11/08/2013 22:27

Egg-zavier must be an American thing then because that's how it's pronounced in X-Men and also another US thriller I saw last night. (I know, I have exemplary cultural references!)

Thanks.

i thought it was 'havier'..

MrsOakenshield · 12/08/2013 20:44

never heard egg-zavier, just zavier.

If it's being pronounced the French way (which is where I would place it as coming from most usually) it should be Zav- ee- ay.
