It's a great name . One of those names that doesn't seem to date and there doesn't seem to be that many baby Sophies around near me. My DD is Sophie.

LazyMonkeyButler · 09/08/2013 00:41

I love Sophie - it's a great name. Strong and pretty all at the same time.

SprinkleLiberally · 09/08/2013 00:48

Not strong to me. Girly and a bit young sounding although quite pretty.

itsnothingoriginal · 09/08/2013 15:27

I'm a bit meh about it - not because I don't like the name or the way it looks and sounds but just because it's so popular! There are so many in our school they all need their surname added so you know who it is!

burberryqueen · 09/08/2013 15:31

it is a fab name - anyone called Sophie will have her choice of career, and will be successful in any walk of life, yet still empathetic and just....truly lovely...
btw .....have u met my daughter?

It's lovely, but I agree with whoever said it's so popular you might as well call your daughter 'girl'...

meditrina · 09/08/2013 15:44

If you add together Sophie/Sophia/Sofia etc, then it was the 'true' number 1 name from ONS stats for 2011, and that was on the back of several years of top 5 popularity. I think it's popular because it's lovely.

2012 lists out any day now, aren't they?

burberryqueen · 09/08/2013 15:46

i had no idea it was so populare until we started going to playparks and when i called SOPHiiiiEEEEEEEEEEEE about six little girls would turn around....

Tubemole1 · 09/08/2013 16:11

My one's called Sophie. Not my choice, railroaded into it by the family Angry . I wanted something more arty like Genevieve or Cassandra. I think it sounds sappy and soft. Still do.Sad

ThePortlyPinUp · 09/08/2013 16:14

I think it's a fab name but that's because I'm a Sophie, I love my name, it's not popular where I live, I've

ThePortlyPinUp · 09/08/2013 16:15

I think I've met two other adult Sophie's and one child Sophie in the last five years.

Rhubarbgarden · 09/08/2013 16:44

Dull and faintly twee

leobear · 09/08/2013 18:20

It is beautiful in its simplicity. Almost perfect. Certainly not twee.

blueblizz · 09/08/2013 18:30

Its my dd name.. my husband came up with the idea as it sounded feminine, traditional and not frilly!!!! People can spell it and not as popular as Sophia where we live. Like every name, people like or dislike. Up to you eh? Good luck.

posybunchof · 10/08/2013 17:34

No it's beautiful. Some names are popular for a reason!

I'd def have considered it if it hadn't already been used in my family.
