What are your thoughts on using a non English name got no other reason than you love it? I adore Anouk, always have but wonder if its a bit exotic next to siblings James Ellie and Alice?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Keztrel · 07/08/2013 15:52

I love it but it does sound odd next to those very English names. Not that that should stop you if you want to use it. Also love Anouschka.

MrsApplepants · 07/08/2013 16:00

Love it

hawkmcqueen · 07/08/2013 16:12

It's almost the dog out of Lost Boys film, was he Nanouk? Otherwise nice name but tooooottttaaaallllyyyy random, man, beside James and Alice.

Mumblyboo · 07/08/2013 16:46

Is random so bad tho? I agree it is diff to others but I didn't necessarily go for matchy names.... It just happened....

Keztrel · 07/08/2013 16:59

No, the randomness is not so bad...it's kind of growing on me actually!

Manoodledo · 07/08/2013 17:45

I love Anouk but know better than to even suggest it to DH! We have a Magnus and if DC3 is a boy are seriously considering Soren. Both randomly Scandi names, it's just what really appeals to us.

BrieMonster · 07/08/2013 17:57

I love it.

Mumblyboo · 07/08/2013 18:57

I'm thinking that I can sell it to dh under the guide of him using Annie if he wants....

I love love love love love this name.

squoosh · 07/08/2013 19:36

Is it a-nuck or a-nook?

Reminds me a bit of Nanook of the North.

Laquila · 07/08/2013 19:42

LOVE IT! For me it was the best thing about that daft Chocolat film.

I'd pronounce it A-nook, with the emphasis on the first syllable. I've also seen it spelt Anoukh, which I like.

Admittedly it's a bit "foreign", particularly if other siblings have more trad English names, but it's such a nice name that I think you should use it if you both really like it.

LeGavrOrf · 07/08/2013 19:44

I love it. What an unusual but beautiful name.

LeGavrOrf · 07/08/2013 19:45

And Anouk Aimee is a beautiful actress.

weebarra · 07/08/2013 19:57

I love Anouk and seriously considered it for DC3 (one of the other DCs has the same name as one of yours). It was vetoed by DH though.

Mintyy · 07/08/2013 20:02

Sorry to be an old grump but I really hate random names and I don't like names inappropriate to culture/heritage.

So, for eg., I love the names Mercedes and Angus but as I am neither Spanish nor Scottish, I decided my dc could not have them.

Just the way I am.

Dilidali · 07/08/2013 20:12

I love Anouk. It's Dutch, isn't it?

Keztrel · 07/08/2013 20:36

I bet if the OP looked far back enough in her or her DH's family history she could find some Dutch or French heritage!

MadBannersAndCopPorn · 07/08/2013 20:48

Love it- go for it. it will sound normal after a while in your family and others won't bat an eyelid. I like it so much that I may steal for my shortlist!!

MrsSolis · 07/08/2013 21:16

I like it. Go for it. Your kids will only be A, B, C + D for a few years, after that the sibling names won't matter. Anouk is gorgeous.
