Our baby has a book with this name in it. It's a rhyming book and rhymes it with cheer. We have been saying "Pree-yuh", but that does not rhyme with cheer. Anyone know?

Yup, Pree-ya. Don't know where they got 'cheer' from :P

In my accent Priya does rhyme with cheer. We say cheer chee-a.

Pree (rhymes with the number 3) followed by a gentle 'a' sound Smile

Pree-a Like Mia

You know its an Indian name? Sometimes names are pronounced differently in different Indian regions but I have never heard a different pronounciation of Priya

Pree-ah.

It's lovely. I've known two.

Cheer sort of rhymes with Priya in non-rhotic accents - so if you're Scottish they don't rhyme but in London they do.

pree-yuh anyway. I knew a lovely one of Indian origin.

After asking my DP, he has confirmed that Priya and cheer "kind of" rhyme in my (just about Welsh) accent.

Wll it would make sense with my American accent there was no rhyming. I guess we will have to read that page with an accent, until we find one that makes it rhyme. Thank you everyone Smile
