I like a few of your dp's choices Met a little girl recently called spirit really suited her and didn't seem unusual at all in their family. Like your other childrens names too Smile

pygmy · 06/08/2013 10:40

I don't think they are try hard at all. I dislike Dulcie, so I would go for Hebe Theodora. There is a Hebe in my sons' school, and as far as I know, she has never been picked on because of her name.
Mabel is way superior though! Wink

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 06/08/2013 10:50

I love Mabel.... stupid DP won't agree though.

fwiw Peaches Geldof's son is Phaedra Confused

(too much sidebar-of-shame knowledge...Blush)

Ponders · 06/08/2013 10:58

What about Thea instead of Theodora? Spelt Theia (but don't do that to the poor child - imagine trying to get all those vowels in the right order in Reception!) it means goddess - as well as being an accepted short form of Theodora

Thea Clementine?

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 06/08/2013 11:03

I know ponders Hmm weird eh.

I've had a think about this and decided that I really like Theadora as a first name. It's lovely.

I have no idea how to pronounce Hebe.

Unless she will be born with a cabbage perm and a set of bifocals I just can't get to grips with it.

imagining the two shits you give Smile

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 06/08/2013 11:03

DP has a slight lisp,he can say Theodora, but not Thea unfortunately.

WilmaFingerdoo · 06/08/2013 11:04

It being Dulcie

WeAll · 06/08/2013 11:05

Dulcie Clementine

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 06/08/2013 11:05

We can't have Theodora as first name, our surname is too long.

OP posts:
Viviennemary · 06/08/2013 11:08

Don't like either. To me they sound very silly and pretentious.

outtolunchagain · 06/08/2013 11:16

I love all these names but especially Hebe , also love Dulcie but do think it sounds a bit heavy with Clementine attached , I prefer a shorter middle name but I think they are gorgeous .

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 06/08/2013 11:32

Pearl and Iris are lovely shorter mn suggestions...any others?

FWIW I really like Dulcie, and think it goes really well with your other DCs' names. Hebe is nice too, and doesn't make me think of 'heebie jeebies' at all - I imagine the goddess and then the plant. Not quite so keen on the mns, but that's just because I'm not sure about how they sound together - Hebe Theodora in particular seems a bit of a mouthful with a double-barrelled name.

As for the 'pretentious'/'try hard' comments, I think some people will say that about pretty much anything that isn't Sophie or Jack, or another name in the top 50 or so. I'm a teacher, and have taught numerous children whose names have initially seemed outlandish (and occasionally downright ugly) to me. In most cases their peers don't bat an eyelid - in fact, the only name-related teasing I've come across has been with children whose names are very familiar and easy to find rhymes for (for example William gets Willy-related jokes; Ellie gets 'Smelly Ellie'; Louise gets called 'Poo-ise' etc.). Admittedly this is London, in schools where children are used to a broad ethnic and social mix, but as long as the names aren't actually cruel or completely made-up (which yours absolutely aren't) I say go with what you like Smile

MaggieMaggieMaggieMcGill · 06/08/2013 11:53

How about Hebe Margot? Tis what ds would have been called had he happened to be female.
Our families thought it was awful.

GlaikitFizzog · 06/08/2013 12:00

Edith
Cissy
Ada

I like hebe

If theadora is liked what about Dora? Or too explorer-ish? It wouldn't bother me.

Fwiw I love your dcs names. We just couldn't pull off arlo here in Scotland. Skye is beautiful (place and name).

Do you say dulcie as dul-chee or dul-see? They should funny in my accent, but I realise you probably don't talk like I do!

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 06/08/2013 12:04

Thanks Smile

Skye was born in Scotland, and we visited Skye whilst we lived there,it is indeed beautiful.
Dulcie is Dul-see. (Home counties accent)

I like Edith and Ada....also love Maude...

OP posts:
Layl77 · 06/08/2013 12:04

I quite like dulcie clementine. As long as its dul-see.

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 06/08/2013 12:05

Hebe Margo is lovely Maggie

GlaikitFizzog · 06/08/2013 12:10

Maud to me is a village near where I'm from and is pronounced mad!

Not mad keen on dulcie, but its not horrible. I prefer Hebe.

How long have y got to go?

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 06/08/2013 12:11

Oh a while yet,I'm due the beginning of December. Smile

Plenty time to wear dh down then! Wink

chattychattyboomba · 06/08/2013 12:16

I have never heard the name Hebe before... And I don't like it. Sorry OP. it's just a weird sounding name. Gives me the hebe jeebies Wink
Might I suggest Hester?
Clementine... Meh. I knew a clementine, she called called Clem... Also chlamydia. Very pretty and lovely girl though.
Constantine maybe?
Love Theodora though. That name wins for me.
Dulcie is cute but Darcie is better IMO (it can be a girls name too).

I think the name combinations you have chosen though do not go together in the slightest.
Theodora and Clementine being lovely long classic, traditional and feminine names.
Dulcie and Hebe... Going for the cutesy alternative almost masculine sounding names.

FingersCrossedLegsNot · 06/08/2013 12:17

On gosh...don't make me choose!!! They are both gorgeous! I really cannot choose a favourite.
