Using the same name as your neighbour...

So about a year and a half ago we moved into a new house. Our neighbours - mum, dad, toddler - introduced themselves on the day we moved in and then we never spoke to them again apart from polite hellos (bad, I know!). About six months ago we moved house again, but only down the road (as in different house, same street!). Whenever I think about baby names (TTC DC2) I'm struck by how much I like the name of their little girl - Imogen. Would it be weird to use it? We still don't talk to them, but we talk to our new neighbours who talk to other people on the street...I think if we do have a DD and use it, it would get back to them. And what if our kids play together in the street when they're older? What if we got to know the parents? (Not looking likely after all this time, I know!).

It'll be fine....it's a lovely name, but it's not so unusual that your inspiration could only have come from them iykwim.

No, of course it isn't weird to chose the same name. You don't know them now, you aren't likely to get to know them. Chances are they have forgotten what your names are and will assume that you have done the same.

It isn't even likely that your DDs would play together. There is going to be at least a 4 yr age gap.

Basically you can't avoid the name of every person you have ever been introduced to. There wouldn't be that many left!

And you might have a boy.

I think in a nutshell, you are overthinking this a little bit. Smile

It would be weird if they were still your neighbours but they are not, so I'd go ahead.

I think it's fine since the neighbour's girl is so much older and you never speak to them. If you do happen to bump into them and they ask you can just say 'Oh, her name's Imogen too actually - we thought it was such a beautiful name!' and there shall be no awkwardness or offence :)

For all they know you could've been planning to use that name for years. I wouldn't worry.

Look on the bright side. My cat has the same name as one of the neighbour kids.

Now that's awkward...Wink

Not at all weird - and even if you were still neighbours you have every right to use it if you love it, a name doesn't 'belong' to anyone.

Use the name, don't be silly
