Hi all

This is my current list of girls names:

Beatrice
Claudia
Constance
Eleanor (shortened to Nell, not Ellie)
Elizabeth (but not shortened to Liz)
Hannah
Madeleine
Marianne (but will drive me mad if people call her Marian)
Miriam
Rosalind

I'm struggling a bit to cut this down. What do you think?

Your top three were on my shortlist and still on the list if ever we have a dd2!

I love all the names listed except Hannah and Madeline - no real reason why!

Do you have a middle name lined up or could you double up on the names?

Wbdn28 · 02/08/2013 20:43

My favourite five from your list:

Beatrice
Constance
Eleanor (Nell)
Hannah
Miriam

AnythingNotEverything · 02/08/2013 20:52

Nell. Just lovely.

Rhubarbgarden · 02/08/2013 23:44

My favourites are Constance, Marianne, Miriam and Rosalind.

DebK2012 · 03/08/2013 16:04

Love Rosalind but never shorten to Linda also Hannah

CruCru · 03/08/2013 17:12

Ah, hadn't realised you could shorten Rosalind to Linda. I think that's the problem with Elizabeth too - every adult Elizabeth seems to get her name shortened to Liz.

I like Eleanor (Nell), Elizabeth (Beth), Miriam (Mimi) best.
Well I love Marianne (Sense & Sensibility!), but my friend of that name also gets Mary-anne pronounciations so it depends how much it will bug you correcting people.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/08/2013 18:01

Love Claudia, Elinor and Marianne. Don't like Miriam or Rosalind much.

LillyNotOfTheValley · 03/08/2013 19:01

Very nice list!
My favorites are Constance, Elizabeth (nn Elsa?), Hannah (I know one nn Noushka, I love it), Beatrice, Eleanor (Nell is lovely).
The only one I am not keen on is Rosalind, too many Rose/Rosie/Rosa around me at the moment.

OrangeJuiceSandwich · 03/08/2013 22:24

Nell is lovely. I also really love Eleanor so would be happy just to use the full name.

squeak2392 · 03/08/2013 22:32

My list used to be exactly the same! :) If it still was I would probably go Hannah or Madeleine but now they all seem equally nice to me.
I love Elizabeth too.
I also love Beatrice, Marianne and Rosalind, but I wouldn't be able to use them myself, so I suppose it's these ones I'll recommend :p

Not much help, sorry! :p

fabergeegg · 03/08/2013 22:47

OP you and I have very similar tastes! Beautifully Sense and Sensibilityish. I'm called Elizabeth technically but go by Beth/Bethany - get both.

I like Beatrix - more body than Beatrice I think - Marianne and Miriam.

CruCru · 05/08/2013 20:19

Hi all

Thanks for your comments. Here is the shortened list:

Beatrice
Claudia
Eleanor
Elizabeth
Madeleine

There is already a Hannah in the family. DH will never go with Constance. I really don't like the idea of Rosalind being shortened to Rosie or Linda. DH doesn't like Miriam. I will be annoyed if Marianne is shortened.

From those I'd pick Beatrice Elizabeth.

TallulahBetty · 05/08/2013 20:44

Eleanor or Madeleine. Not keen on the rest.

Shardlake · 06/08/2013 23:54

Hi, I love Eleanor/Nell/Nellie - have a cousin called Nellie short for Eleanor and it really suits her. Also love Beatrix with the x.
