How do I add a middle name?

I would like to add a middle name to my 4yo and 15mo dd's birth certificates. Both don't have middle names. Dd1 would like one, which means dd2 has to have one, too!

How do I go about this in the UK?

I forgot to ask: does anyone know how much it costs?

I think your only option is deed poll. Many companies do it online or less than £30 and it really straight forward to do.

A girl I went to school with (and her brother) were told they were allowed to "pick their own" middle name as their 16th birthday present which I always thought was interesting!
If your dd1 is picking hers, maybe let dd2 wait and pick her own as well?

Thanks jay that's really good to know. Thanks for your reply :)

The name for dd1 is one that I chose at the time of her birth, but was not put on her BC. The subject of middle names has arisen amongst her friends; the inevitable "why don't I have a middle name, Mummy?" has been asked. I told her what I would have had as her middle name and she loves it :)

I could wait and let dd2 choose/approve/disapprove of the middle name I have in mind for her. I'll definitely look at Deed Poll for dd1.

Thanks again x
