Names to go with Matilda?

My dd1 is called Matilda, I have always adored the name and it was the only one I'd really got in mind when pregnant!

This time I'm struggling, nothing really jumping out in the same way!

So far I have girls:
Tabitha
Edith
Arabella
Theodora
Delilah

Boys:
Nathanael
Theodore
Eden
Jonah
Raphael

I also like Mabel and Milo but I'm trying to stay away from matching initials!

We have an Alice and are thinking about Matilda for DC2.

From your list I'd say Theodore goes with Matilda best, but my favourite is Nathaniel, and for girls either Arabella or Edith. For some reason Tabitha seems too close to Matilda in my head, even though I'm aware they don't sound alike at all Confused

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 29/07/2013 09:13

I think Tabitha is lovely and goes really nicely with Matilda.
Delilah is a good fit too

Theodore,Jonah and Raphael,Are all really nice from the boys list Smile

Onyabike · 29/07/2013 11:15

I love the name Arabella. 2nd favourite would be Tabitha.
Of the boys, I like Raphael the best.

jojane · 29/07/2013 11:21

i have a matilda phoebe, alfie peter and george milo.

jojane · 29/07/2013 11:22

ps george is 2 so i DEFINATELY didnt copy!!!!

Littlecherublegs · 29/07/2013 13:22

Love Nathaniel and Theodore!

Not too keen on your girls names though but I do love Matilda!
Tabitha does somehow seem too similar to Matilda, Edith and Arabella are ok, dislike Theodora (though like Thea) and dislike Delilah.

Rhubarbgarden · 29/07/2013 13:50

Edith and Tabitha are lovely.

JemimaMuddledUp · 29/07/2013 13:53

My friend has a Matilda whose brothers are called Oscar and Felix.

ringaringarosy · 29/07/2013 17:19

I have a Tabitha and am thinking of Matilda for dd 2.Everyone i meet with a Matilda seems to love Tabitha and vice versa.

natandmat · 29/07/2013 23:29

Thank you for all of your opinions!

I know what some of you mean about Tabitha being very similar to Matilda, that's what is holding me back slightly! I think it's because together they sound like names of kittens!

I met a little Mabel the other day whilst in the park with my DD. I thought it sounded really sweet.

williaminajetfighter · 29/07/2013 23:38

Op my dd1 is also Matilda which I've never regretted. Funny enough 2nd choice was tabitha!!

I don't know if it helps but here is my shot list. I'm 26 weeks and still not sure. Some are husbands bonkers options!! We are having another girl but have noted my boy options as well. I have Spanish last name ending with a so have gone with lots of girls names ending with a.

BOY
Kit
Sacha
Marlon
Roman

GIRL
Vida
Queenie
Neisha
Goldie
Medea
Pearl
Tessa (front runner)
Electra
Winter (Winnie)
Summer
Paloma
Lux
Saskia
Nina
Iris
Rhea
Marlo
Dasha
Petra
Clover
Mabel

williaminajetfighter · 29/07/2013 23:43

Oh and OP Mabel is lovely. Little girl at DD's nursery named that and so sweet.

I didn't go for Tabitha as there are lisps in my family and the 'itha' would have proved difficult to pronounce!!

manicinsomniac · 29/07/2013 23:55

I love Arabella. Gorgeous name. As is Matilda. I think they're perfect together.

Tabitha I'm not overly keen on (and yes, together with Matilda they do somehow sound like kittens don't they!) Edith is sweet but I don't like Delilah or Theresa

Nathaniel is one of my favourite boys names. Also think it's great with Matilda. All your other boy's names are really nice too (I like Jonah less than the others) and I really like Eden for a boy or a girl.

We know an Imogen and Mathilda...

formicadinosaur · 30/07/2013 08:46

I love theodore/Theodora

Madeline also

OrangeBlossom2 · 31/07/2013 10:04

Matilda and Tabitha are both names on our list and I love them both.

Theodore stands out to me most as the boys name. Matilda and Theo sounds good. Would you shorten it?

Bantria · 31/07/2013 13:58

I have a Matilda (known as Tilly) and a Polly. Undoubtedly too similar but all that we could agree on and I love both names. Tilly's middle name is Welsh for Mabel- Mabli! our dog is called Florence!

I like all your suggested girls names. No experience of boys here sorry!

natandmat · 02/08/2013 09:27

This is so hard! I feel like I'm going round in circles!! Thank you for all you ideas and opinions!

I'm thinking Edith Arabella or Edith Tabitha for a girl, but this could change by this afternoon!!! :-/

Boys, still just aarrgghh! I now have Casper and Arthur to add to the mix!!

I'm having a boy but Matilda is my girls name of choice with Imogen second.

I loved Tabitha but DP vetoed!

Boys names we're looking at include, Nathaniel, Albie (Albert), Oscar and Reuben.

WhispersOfWickedness · 02/08/2013 16:07

Matilda was on my list for DD, we didn't use it in the end though as DH wasn't keen.

Others on my list were Alice, Lucy, Rosa, Celeste and Maud.
