Your opinions on the name Ella?

What do you think of it as a name? And is it really that popular?

I love it!

I've heard on mn that its popular but I also heard that about Dd s name and most people we meet around here have never heard if the name before!

I also think that names are usually popular because they're such lovely names so I wouldn't let that put you off!

Very popular, and very similar to other very popular names. Like the Ella Fitzgerald connection though!

We have a Gabriela that we shorten to ela (Spanish spelling). We do know a few more.

I've an Ella, she often gets called Ellie because people are idiots are more used to it

You will also get people singing -Ella Ella Ella eh eh eh

But I think it's a beautiful name, only 2 in her 2 form entry primary and I know another in her 40s

I have one (so obviously I love it). I did think about naming her a longer name and shortening it but she didn't suit the names I had in mind.

As for popularity - we've lived in a large city and are now in a town and she's attended 4 different nurseries but I haven't met another one (except a 9 year old once in he park)
There isn't one in in her reception year in September either (45 children)
TBH I don't mind if it's popular.

It's a lovely name. Pretty buy solid iyswim. Lots of them though but that doesn't have to put you off.

Pp a Stella is a BRILL suggestion. I love that name!

Nice name, a bazillion of them around at the moment. That and Isabella/Bella which confused DS no end when he started school!)

I used to like it but now find it dull - a bit like the current equivalent of Jane, Lynn or Claire.

So boring now and I know loads of them. Agree with Orangepudding that it's the modern equivalent of Claire etc.

What about Estella? Or Isabella, Mirabel, Arabella?

Overused and therefore a little dull. T

It's pretty, but there's a lot of them around at the moment. It's in the same sort of group as Maya and Lilly. All pretty names but super-common right now.
