Which would you pick and why? Also, what kind of feel/vibe do you get from the name? Thanks

Iris - love it. Heard a mum shouting the name of her daughter Iris in the park and have loved it ever since.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 26/07/2013 00:09

Iris is a beautiful name. Beatrix less.
I'd love to have though of Iris rather than the name DD has.

GoodMorningMoon · 26/07/2013 00:09

Beatrix-my beautiful grandmother who sits in a rocker and reads me Peter Rabbit.

Iris-my favourite flower, springtime, dark eyes.

I'd pick Iris.

OrangeLily · 26/07/2013 00:15

Love Beatrix but would might be hard to say and be shortened to Bea? Which is quite cute.

Iris is also lovely though.

Beatrix is a beautiful name but bear in mind you will spend your entire life clarifying whether it is Beatrix or Beatrice. If your DD will also need to spell her surname that could become... tiresome.

looki · 26/07/2013 00:54

Iris.....

Lutrine · 26/07/2013 03:50

Iris, such a beautiful name! It was very high on our list of favourite names for DD.

cantthinkofanythingwitty · 26/07/2013 04:35

iris is lovely x

sleepingbeautiful · 26/07/2013 05:16

Beatrix is a bit harsh sounding I find. It reminds me of dominatrix, or Bellatrix in HP.

I love Iris. My Great Aunt was called Iris (1st world war baby), and was a very boundary pushing lady of her era. I only wouldn't use it if your DD is likely to be short and dumpy genetically. I think Daisy works better on a short person than Iris.

Iris is just beautiful. For me, it's timeless, elegant yet feminine and suits all ages.

Beatrix I'm not so keen on, it sounds a little harsh on a teeny one. Beatrice is nicer but still not as lovely as Iris.

MummyCoolski · 26/07/2013 06:12

I like both a lot.

Beatrix is gaining popularity and if you add in Beatrice as another source of nn Bea, I think it is really quite common (as in prevalent, not in the pejorative sense).

Iris makes me think of a book I've just read. It was amazing but pretty sad. I can see it becoming a film in the future, so you may wish to check it out as one of the main characters is named Iris. It is called The Bellweather Revivals.

QueLinda · 26/07/2013 08:07

I like both. Beatrix is more solid and traditional and Iris more chic and part of the classical Greek myth names so seems quite romantic to me.

ch1134 · 26/07/2013 10:23

I love Iris but it doesn't go with my surname. such a beautiful flower and such a lovely sound, and works in many languages

Viviennemary · 26/07/2013 13:06

I much prefer Iris.

mamaknows · 26/07/2013 13:52

I think Iris is a lovely name!

It's also the name of one of my grandmothers and I always found it beautiful and absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I am a Goo Goo Dolls fan Wink

FingersCrossedLegsNot · 27/07/2013 09:37

Ok so it seems to be leaning towards Iris. Is Iris popular or is it on the brink of exploding?

Hello- gorgeous names.
I have a baby Iris and Beatrix was also on our list. Other names with that 'feel' are Constance, Elsie, Sylvia.
I haven't met another baby Iris yet in my area (north west) but have come across a few Beatrice's (spelt that way).

girliefriend · 27/07/2013 14:16

Prefer Beatrice (nn Bea) not keen on Iris as it makes me think of the Iris of the eye - that might just be me though!!

I know babies/ young children with those names in south west.

girliefriend · 27/07/2013 14:18

Sylvie/ Sylvia i think is lovely and i don't know any body under the age of 80 with that name!!

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 27/07/2013 21:02

Iris.

It's softer, and Beatrix is a bit... Posher.

Also, i do like Sylvie/ Sylvia

Cocodale · 27/07/2013 21:28

wanderinglonelyasacloud · 28/07/2013 21:37
