So, Junior Panda almost has a name... DH prefers one, I prefer another. It's DEADLOCK - we need your help!

  1. Aubin Laurence Stephen [2 syllable surname starting with A]
  2. Felix Laurence Stephen [same surname]
  3. They're both hideous
  4. Either is good

Stephen as you might guess is a non-negotiable family name. I won't say who prefers which but would love to hear your thoughts.

Yes, Aubin is of French origin - can be surname or christian name.

All of our chosen names are either saints' names or biblical names which is important to us...

Still thinking! We have six weeks, right?!

Aubrey definitely unisex according to Wikipedia

squoosh · 25/07/2013 12:50

Aubrey now considered unisex because America has adopted it in recent years as a girls name.

It's still a boys name though.

squoosh · 25/07/2013 12:51

They also use Rory as a girls name but nothing will ever convince me that Rory is a 'girls' name.

katydid02 · 25/07/2013 12:54

I don't really like either TBH. How about shortening Laurence to Laurie and having that as a first name? Laurie Stephen has a ring to it IMO.

SummerRainIsADistantMemory · 25/07/2013 12:55

3

haven't read the whole thread but that's my gut reaction, sorry

LaRegina · 25/07/2013 12:56

Sorry I'm with No.3 - Felix is a cat IMO and Aubin is a bit meh...

I think if you're dithering between two, ditch them both. If you really liked one of them you would know you wanted that one - like with men really Grin

RiaOverTheRainbow · 25/07/2013 12:57

Would you consider Laurence or Stephen pick Stephen for the first name with Aubin and Felix as middle names?

VinegarDrinker · 25/07/2013 13:00

The Aubrey we know isn't American. Anyhow, OP doesn't have a girl and isn't considering Aubrey, sorry for derailing slouching!

Gabriel definitely my favourite of those you've mentioned. Or how about Jude, Noah, Elijah, Josiah...

niffernaffer · 25/07/2013 14:05

Aubin!

NoComet · 25/07/2013 14:09

Laurence Steven A... ..... Perfect.

Steven was my lovely grandpa and would have been DSIS son had she had one.

TigerSwallowTail · 25/07/2013 15:04

When I hear Felix I think of the man who jumped from space.

TheCharWoman · 25/07/2013 15:04

Felix is great because:
(1) it means happy/lucky/blessed - could there be a better name meaning?
(2) it's a good solid classic name. (It's even in the Bible!)
(3) it is international and everyone knows how to say it, spell it etc.

I really don't get the mumsnet obsession with 'it's a brand of cat food in the UK'. So are lots of things! Arthur? Stella is a brand of lager, Flora a brand of marg! Fwiw, when I take my 1 year old Felix to the supermarket we do a special detour to the cat food. I point out his name, and the cats - and he miaows Grin but then that's just the happy/lucky /blessed little chap he is !

TheCharWoman · 25/07/2013 15:05

Oops, sorry that was a bit long wasn't it!

Serenity6 · 25/07/2013 15:07

Aubin sounds horrible, sorry. And what if kids at school might use the spelling to tease him ie A. Bin? They might not, but who knows.

While Felix is not my cup of tea, it is okay and far superior to Aubin.

Laurence is gorgeous. How about Laurence Stephen Aubin or Felix surname?

whyno · 25/07/2013 15:10

Felix is lovely

squoosh · 25/07/2013 15:19

Felix is marmite 'cat' name - I dislike it

Tabitha is a marmite 'cat' name - I love it

I'm a bit indifferent to marmite though.

Wbdn28 · 25/07/2013 16:07

Felix Laurence Aubin

pygmy · 25/07/2013 17:21

Felix is great!!

Green18 · 25/07/2013 17:24

Felix! Aubin is too unusual-will cause probs for child(depending on where you live).

Green18 · 25/07/2013 17:26

Laurence is lovely too! Laurence Felix or Felix Laurence is good.

HRHwheezing · 25/07/2013 17:28

I'm with char lady.
Felix is a lovely name. It's a very European name, I like it.
Oscar and felix are dig and cats names but that's because we like them as names.

MrsOakenshield · 25/07/2013 17:33

Aubin nice. Felix awful. Laurence nice. Laurence Stephen too similar to Stephen Lawrence. AA bad. FA worse.

Basically, I think Aubin Laurence would be fine but not with a surname beginning with A.

Laurence Aubin?

MrsOakenshield · 25/07/2013 17:33

oh no, that makes LAA which is No Good At All.

MrsOakenshield · 25/07/2013 17:34

what about Elias?
