Initial trouble...

Me and DH are dead set on a boys name. The first name is one we both love and the middle name is after my Grandad. Together they are lovely and go nice with our surname.

Only problem is (don't want to out myself so this is tricky) the initials and surname together are the name of a shop. Like WH Smith. But not that! And not even a very naice shop.

Would that put you off? I'm inclined to not be bothered and DH isn't but my DM was quite adamant we change the first name (although I get the feeling she's not a fan of it anyway).

Add another middle name before or after the one you've already chosen. Or flip the names round, and use the middle name day-to-day.

Good idea about another middle name.

Will people think I'm trying to be like William and Kate with 3 names though?

Nah. Two middle names is fairly normal.

And is 2 middle names normal, just on another thread I was saying one middle name is more common; is that not the case?

Don't worry about it too much. Most people won't notice.

DDs initials and surname spell something (name iof a hospital ward). I nearly didn't use it. But it's not an issue at all. Most of the time she'll be first name/surname.

Don't worry about it, I doubt a lot of people will notice. I don't think any of my friends know my middle name, and I don't know theirs either, it's just never came up in conversation.

Can you flip the first two names but call him by the middle name? E.g. I know someone as Alex but his official first name is actually Robert, parents wanted to call him Alexander Robert but as their surname begins with S they swapped them so as not to spell ARS. They always had the intention of introducing him as Alex though.

*Not his real names but the principle is the same.
