DH loves this name it's apparently old English but to me I feel it sounds like we are trying to be quirky? Any thoughts appreciated....?

rive (rv)
v. rived, riv·en (rvn) also rived, riv·ing, rives
v.tr.

  1. To rend or tear apart.
  2. To break into pieces, as by a blow; cleave or split asunder.
  3. To break or distress (the spirit, for example).

No.

I prefer River - which is a more obvious and brave 'hippy' name.

Riven - ribbon.

squoosh · 22/07/2013 14:38

A bit of a negative word.

'His skull all riven in twain! his brains dash'd out' Christopher Marlowe.

Not a good meaning.

Raven?

No.

It will always be a woman's name on MN, I think.

I would assume the parent of Riven was into LARP, dressed as an elven king at weekends and had the box set of Game of Thrones.

But I don't dislike it.

No. (But River, I do like)

itsnothingoriginal · 22/07/2013 19:33

I agree - it's definitely a female name on mn Smile

InkleWinkle · 22/07/2013 19:46

I immediately thought its a girls name on MN.

thegreylady · 22/07/2013 22:21

Yes a very special name on here. I wonder if she ever came back with a new name.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/07/2013 00:09

The meaning of something violently broken would put me off it.
