Lucy / Lucie

Not pregnant so this is purely speculative (and may all change!), but we're planning on ttc no. 2 soon, & I had a cuddle with a very new baby girl yesterday, so I'm feeling broody! (It's that new baby smell! )

DS is William Charles

No idea what we would call another DS, as William is the only name we ever had! But for a DD, I'm quite taken with Lucy (or maybe Lucie?).

I've never met a little Lucy - all the little girls I meet at toddler groups seem to be Evie/Ava/Isabelle/Sophie/Lily. I even know three little Matildas (a name we considered for DS). But when I look at the baby name charts, Lucy is in the top 10. Do people know many little Lucys (not that it matters to us really - William is hardly rare but it's the only name we could agree on!)

Also - I'm thinking Lucy Elizabeth Hope. What do you think?

I like it. I think you should just choose what you like. I prefer Lucy to Lucie.

I have a lovely 18 week old Lucy. Don't do ie at the end, I've only once been asked the spelling, everyone assumes y at the end, you'll set her up for a lifetime of corrections.

We were going for Lucy something long middle name, Elizabeth was considered, but we went for Lucy savannah in the end. :)

There is a Lucie and a William in dd's class. One other Lucy and a few Williams in the rest of the school - primary

I don' t know any little Lucys and I know a lot of preschoolers! DD is Amy Alice Hope, so I think that you have very good taste in names.

I know two toddlers called Lucy, and a good half a dozen in their late twenties/early thirties. It's a lovely name that seems to have stayed reasonably popular - or at least hasn't particularly gone out of fashion.

You have a point about Lucie, my name can be spelt one of several ways and it does irritate me sometimes. I think I had a book as a child with a character called Lucie in it, that's where I remember it from. But when I see it written down, I like Lucy more.

I always wanted Hope as a middle name for girl, as it's the name of the place we got married! But Lucy Hope seems too short on its own.

There are LOADS of Lucys where I live. I think ONS site has a breakdown of most popular names by region, and it could be that Lucy is number 1 here, but not even in the top 10 elsewhere, which would skew the figures.

I know of one Lucy aged 3.

I would definitely spell it Lucy and not Lucie.

Spaniel, DD's middle name is Hope because it is the first place DH and I lived together. Is your Hope the Hope in the Hope Valley in Derbyshire ?

BikeRunSki, yes it is! At Losehill House Hotel, it was beautiful! We don't live there but used to be regular visitors to the Peak District with the mad spaniel (in pre-DS days).

Beautifull ! That hotel used to be a field centre, and we lived in a farm cottage on the farm at the bottom.of Lose Hill, Spring House Farm. It was a long time ago, 99/00, but we only live 45-60 mins away now and are stlll frequent visitors, now accompanied by 4 yo DS and 1 yo DD.

Although we got married in Bakewell.

What a lovely place to live! DH applied for a job in Bakewell a few years ago, he didn't get it unfortunately but we would love to move to that part of the world one day. We're about 3 hours drive away now, which is a long way with a 1 year old!

I worked in Sheffield, DH in Hathersage. It was only for a year, in rented, but it was idyllic. We were very fortunate to get the cottage, the land lady interviewed everyone interested! It' s now about as far as our 1 yo will travel.

Another Peak District lover here, was in hope valley walking last weekend. :) I'm notts border, so off j26/j27 of m1. About forty mins to get into heart of Peak District. We love it.

I think Lucy is nicest as a stand alone name. Lucie better if nn for Lucille, Lucinda etc.

I have a 10 month old Lucy Grace, we always get complimented on her name and I am yet to meet another one (south east). Every Lucy I've ever met has been lovely!

Lucy Elizabeth is lovely. Lucie is a bit odd if you're not French. And auto-correct changes it to "lucid"!

I have a Lucy, she is 8, but her Lucy is short for a longer name (Dutch, and would out me on here, it is very unusual even in Holland)

I really like Lucy, but there are quite a few round here, and I liked the idea that when she is older she has a more sophisticated name to use if she wants. I find the current trend for Evie, Millie, Mandy etc very sweet, but perhaps just a bit little girly, I like the option of a longer name. I was a shortened name all my childhood, but now only use the full version

How about Lucia?

I know a few Lucy's, one in her 50s, one 23 and one age 3.

DD was going to either be Lucy or the name we went with all through my pregnancy as our girls choice.

It's a lovely name.

I have a Lucie (although her dad chose it ) and was quite surprised to see it in the Mrs Tiggywinkle book!
