Alexander

Hi all

What do you think of Alexander (Alec or Alex for short)? I asked my brother and he thought it was boring (we do have quite conventional taste in boys names though).

DH has a cousin called Alex (haven't seen him for years). Is that weird?

We already have a DS called Henry.

I like it. Wont date, easily shortened. My son's name is the same as two of DH cousins, DH Dad first name (but he uses his second) and DH grandad.

I love the name Alexander! But then I'm biased cause that's what we called DS

I like it. I was keen on Alexander for DS but DH wasn't. Not boring at all.

I like it. I don't know any young people called Alex.

Classic name. Nn - Xander, Al, Alex

Love it, very very popular in Scotland. Its so versitile though - lots of nn potential and goes with most surnames.

I love it. Most of the ones I know are shortened to Xander. DS has a less conventional first name, but Alexander for a middle name.

I like it we just used it as one of ds3's middle names, I know another little boy called Alexander and they don't shorten it.

It's definitely not boring! Ds1 is called Alex (not actually short for Alexander) and I think it's a lovely name!

My cousin's little boy is Alexander, so it's not weird to have 2 in the same family.

always hated the name as 2 exes had that name (by sheer coincidence) but good old HH made me love it now!

now I think of Ben instead of those 2 burgers people who messed me about!

Phew, almost didn't dare look! All positive responses, either early days or the warm weather chilling everyone out . I have an Alexander and if dd had been ds would have been henry too, good strong name I think (both)

Love it. Henry and Alexander go perfectly. Its a classic timeless name. I'd use it but its the name of my ex (going to use Henry instead!!!)

I have a 3 yo Alexander (Alex). He's the only one I know of in my group of friends

I have a three year old Alexander so I think it is a lovely name. It is very popular here though. Shout Alex in the park and half the boys turn around.

Lovely name. My husband is Alexander (aka Alex, Big Al - he's very tall - Xander, Xan, Xanzi) and I often think how much I love his name.

My nephew is also Alexander. We just call them Big Alex and Little Alex. Once Big Alex had the little one on his shoulders, and Little Alex proclaimed to everyone 'Look! It's the Tower of Alex!'

So basically, go for it.

It's a brilliant name because
a) It doesn't get misheard for anything else.
b) You don't often have to spell it.
c) It has a variety of NNs, so built-in future flexibility.
d) It sounds as though it should have "the Great" after it.
e) It's been steadily popular so it won't date.
f) It's international.
g) naming your DS Alexander is a well-known sign of highly intelligent parents ;)

Alexander is a most excellent name.

Lovely, though I am biased as I have a female version. Absolutely ageless, and goes so well with Henry too. I quite like Alec though!

Love it! Was on my list for ds but dp knew a guy he didn't like with the name etc..... Really lovely IMO.

Great name. We will be using it if we end up on team blue!
