For a girl. Means 'from Persia'. I am. Wouldn't mind Percy as a nn. Any thoughts? Suggested it on another thread and just fancied some feedback.

from Anne of Green Gables, no?

bit precious...

MeerkatMerkin · 15/07/2013 20:21

Haven't read it, my grandmother always wanted me to! Terrible. Blush

I like Percy as a nn. Less keen on Persis, how about Persephone?

baskingseals · 15/07/2013 20:22

I like it, but I think you would get a lot of 'what persil?' Type comments.
Are there any other names you like that reflect your heritage?

MeerkatMerkin · 15/07/2013 20:25

pottering I do like Greek names (also have a connection with Greece) but Persephone definitely not for me.

basking the other name I mentioned on the other thread ('girls names I've never heard' or similar) was Lenore! Clearly I like washing powder names. Grin

Persil

Jacksterbear · 15/07/2013 22:41

Looks too much like "penis" to me!

selsigfach · 15/07/2013 22:43

Ditto penis! Sorry!

curlew · 15/07/2013 22:43

You can't have Percy as a nn for a girl. You just can't. Really.

BlueStarsAtNight · 15/07/2013 22:45

It sounds completely weird and made up to me. And I would have assumed it was for a boy.

Hashtagwhatever · 15/07/2013 22:46

Percy is nice, not keen on persis although I do like the name Perris?

curlew · 15/07/2013 22:50

Percy is absolutely not nice. It is a horrible name for a boy and a hideous name for a girl. Why do people have to try to be all cool and hipster and show it by naming their children things which they must know deep down are vile?

tigerlilyboo21 · 15/07/2013 22:54

Sorry, definitely not keen on Persis but I think Lenore is lovely!

Bumbolina · 15/07/2013 23:02

I didn't notice what topic this was is and thought this thread was about an infection. Does that help?

chickydoo · 15/07/2013 23:02

My DN is Perdita nn Percy.
I also like the Greek name Merope
( Mer..opie)

Inkblinkandmustard · 15/07/2013 23:08

I knew a Persis once, she was frightfully posh and quite formidable - liked her a lot. It does make me think of pertussis though (whooping cough)

UnrequitedSkink · 15/07/2013 23:10

Perdita?

MeerkatMerkin · 16/07/2013 00:07

curlew idk maybe we're all just soooo cool. Who knows? I'm not actually pregnant. I was, and at that time it wasn't on my 'list'. Just saw it and wondered what people thought. Maybe the kid I might have had hated my list of names and decided to DISSOLVE. Who knows? Hth.

Not keen on Perdita, sorry guys, it makes me think of 'purdy' which is, if I'm not wrong, a babyish version of 'pretty'? Could be wrong. Percy is great however! Grin

OP posts:
WhoBU · 16/07/2013 01:21

Doesn't Perdita mean lost?

NewChoos · 16/07/2013 08:45

I know a male Persis

MeerkatMerkin · 16/07/2013 12:09

Sorry curlew I didn't mean to be so terse, for some reason your comment hit a sore spot. I am not cool or hipster in the slightest so should probably stay away. :) Fwiw DS has a lovely, non-hipster name, Percy wouldn't really go with his.

Rhubarbgarden · 16/07/2013 13:03

I Really like Persis

misskatamari · 16/07/2013 13:09

It just makes me think penis - which would probably result in some micky taking from school kids who would probably think the same.

Leeds2 · 16/07/2013 20:08

When I read it, I assumed it was a boys' name.

Know a Persephone, which I don't really like, who is known as Seffie, which I love!

Jubelteen · 16/07/2013 20:54

Don't have my glasses on and read this threadname in active convos as "Penises" clicked looking forward to some knob chat! Awful name, sorry.
