Sibling combo: Bethany or Benjamin?

About to start TTC no.3 (we must be mad)! We had a real palaver naming DD, so I'd like to get organised beforehand this time around!

DS is Daniel Patrick
DD is Annabel Lily

For another DS, I would like Benjamin Roy.
For another DD, I would like Bethany Rose.

DP, on the other hand would like Matthew James for a DS. For a DD he would like Catherine Poppy or Elizabeth Violet.

Obviously, we've got a bit of a flower theme going on for the girls middle names! Roy is my dad's middle name, so that's a nice link. DP picked DD's name, so I feel it's definitely my turn! He is not wild about my choices. I quite like his choice of Matthew, but I refuse to compromise on Bethany - I HAVE to have a Bethany! (It's been my favourite name since childhood). He's says Elizabeth would be a compromise and shorten her name to Beth. But we all know she'd get called Liz, which I can't stand! (Sorry to any Liz's out there)! Grin

However, I have a sneaking suspicion that his name choices 'go' a bit better with our DC's names. I know I'm getting myself in a tizz over nothing, but I thought I'd ask for the wide and varying opinions of MN! So I guess what I'm asking is this; do the following combos go well together?

Daniel
Annabel
Benjamin

or...

Daniel
Annabel
Bethany

Thanks in advance! Smile

I love bethany and benjamin (although obviously you know they will probably be shortened to Beth & Ben...both nice still). You dont hear the name Beth much these days but maybe thats a good thing for you? I think they all go together well as they are all names that were very popular in the 90's but less common now. So not ridiculously unpopular or old fashioned but also not as though there will be tonnes of them in the class. All names which can be shortened easily as well. :) Like your choices a bit better than your dps but thats just me :)

Roy is the only name I dislike. Any other combination is good. Could you not compromise? Your first name, his middle - or vice versa?

Nicknamegrief · 15/07/2013 16:45

I think they all work.

Dislike Bethany, and like Elizabeth/Beth - i'm with your OH i'm afraid - I don't think Bethany goes as it's a bit of a schemey common dated name where I am. Sorry.

Matthew is lovely - I think that Benjamin does go though and it's a perfectly ok name - but Matthew is much nicer.

I think if you call her Beth all the time regardless of what is on the BC then it is extremely unlikely that anyone would ever call her Liz unless she wanted that herself.

I think any of them would go. I would vote for Bethany Rose and Matthew Roy (as it's a family name - Matthew James is nicer if you aren't that fussed about using Roy).

I don't really like Elizabeth or Catherine.
