Both Names from the same piece of fiction?

Hello,

We've finally agreed on a boys name that we both like. (We had a girls name picked out before we we even conceived.) We've realised however that both names (not too common) are those of minor characters in a very well-known and well-loved series of children's books (and films.) Is this a problem? Would you assume we named the siblings after the book? If the names were Ron and Hermione I wouldn't even bother to ask, but they are minor characters...

Many thanks for any honest feedback you can offer.

I don't see a problem with that. They are both great names.

At the end of the day the two never met, spoke to each other and pretty sure that Ariana died before Cedric was born and Cedric was dead before Ariana was actually mentioned.

Being linked to a Harry Potter book will be the least of little Cedric's problems!

You're fine I love HP and wouldn't think of that if I heard your chosen names together. :-)

Thank you all for the reassurance.

For those who've mentioned problems with the name Cedric - any particular reason - awful associations I might have missed (serial killers by that name, rhymes, etc) or is it just not to your taste? I'm aware it's not very common and of Ivanhoe and Little Lord Fauntleroy, but don't find either of these works offputting. We actually like that it's not a very common name (I was one of three with my name in class at school and hated that, DH was one of five!)

Many thanks again for honest feedback.

I don't think both those names in the same family will be a problem at all.

Cedric is nicely unusual and will probably start to grow in popularity over the next few years. I also really like Edric!

I think Cedric, the wet one who died in HP.
