I could be being hormonal as just found out today I'm having a boy when desperately wanted a girl.

However....the more I think about it, the more I really really want to call our new son after my Dad who was the love of my life and sadly died 3 years ago. His name was Russell nn Russ.

I know this isn't a popular or immediately cool name...but could it be trendy again (especially as Russ) on the right little boy?

Would value your opinions as I'll have to fight for this one with DH if I fix on it. At the moment it's the only name my heart is shouting "yes!" to

Thank you lots...really pleased to get some positive responses, although is this just because anyone who clicked on the thread thinking 'noooo don't do it' saw the bit about my dad and decided best not? Don't want to give DS a name he'll hate...

Tbh I'm not a fan of Russell but funny enough I do like Russ.

My grandad was Russell and i wish i had used it for DS. I know a one or two teenagers called Russell and it does suit them.

I love it - DH vetoed it for DS. I worked in a restaurant whilst at uni and the guy who regularly came tp fix stiff there was Russell. He was seriously cool and maybe a tiny bit handsome which is maybe why I still remember him 20 years later

I have to admit I immediately thought why would you do that to a child? As the only ones I know are age 60+. However I DO like Russ and I'm not just saying that!

I only know one Russell and he is a dependable, caring, intelligent, sociable type. How could I dislike the name given that? It's unusual but not invented. I think it's a great choice.

Funny, we were having a joke telling session in the car tonight and I came up with that one. And then realised dd didn't know any child called Russell! There was the occasional one my ageish (early 40s), but it's one of those names I think maybe another generation needed to be cool.

Always liked it as a name tho'.

Not many about! I've only known 2 I can recall. Really don't like the first one (ex, let me down in a big way) but the other is fine so don't think I can label them all as bad based on my bad experiences!
