Hello everyone,

Could I possibly get an opinion on these names? My partner and I are worried about potential issues/problems/bullying in the future, so any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Btw...Littleun will be taking my partner's surname which is very rare in the UK.

Here's the sort of shortlist!
Binky Ramone (girl obviously, my favourite!)
Logan Kassidi (boy)
Skylar-Rae (boy)
Thaila-Koltyn (pronounced Tyler Colton, girl)

DP has their heart set on Yolandi. I'm just not too sure.

Any suggestions/advice would be fantastic!

Truthfully???

No.

Binky? ShockShockShock Can YOU imagine being called Binky??
No.

Skylar for a boy is wrong.
Logan is ok-ish out of all of them.

Cannot pronounce the last one.

Ruprekt · 06/07/2013 11:29

Tyler for a girl and Skylar for a boy?

They will have to spell their name out forever.

aftermay · 06/07/2013 11:34

Yolanda is the best choice from your list. Big 'no' for all the others.

ConfusedAndNew · 06/07/2013 11:39

Ruprekt; I thought Binky would fit in well with the mass popularity of 'cute' names eg. Lily, Alfie, Archie...all lovely names but not really our cup of tea. We definitely want something very alternative!

Aftermay; I do actually like Yolandi, it just sounds kinda weird with DP's surname. However, it would go very well with my surname! :(

Binky is the name for a rabbit or a fairy....not a little girl! Smile

Imagine if she goes through a Goth phase, dressed in black, nose piercings and she is called Binky!!!! SmileSmilePmsl.

Do the test....

'All rise for Judge Binky Foster.......' Nope, this does not work.

'This is your Captain Binky Maynard speaking....' Nope!

Ruprekt · 06/07/2013 12:08

Kassidi is not good. Cassidy is better.

EggInABap · 06/07/2013 12:34

Sorry I think they're all horrid. They sound like 'made up' names apart from Logan. I know a few little Logan's.

IHeartKingThistle · 06/07/2013 12:37

I know of Yolande but not Yolandi. I quite like it.

MortifiedAdams · 06/07/2013 12:38

Dear me.

wigglesrock · 06/07/2013 13:03

Rae as a first name is nice for a girl.

I hear Logan, I think Wolverine Blush

I hear Binky, I think child's name for a comforter

Ruprekt · 06/07/2013 13:04

What else could they be called?

wigglesrock · 06/07/2013 13:04

What about Ramone as a first name?

RoadToTuapeka · 06/07/2013 13:07

All awful imo, and yes as per previous poster I read a book (about a north American family); binkies were universally understood to be pacifiers/dummies.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/07/2013 13:12

This is a joke, yes? Sorry but they are all abominable.

Binky is cute as a nn, to be used only at home. Thaila-Koltyn sounds like the name of a machine from a bad 1970s sci-fi series.

bugsybill · 06/07/2013 13:13

I like Skyla for a girl better.

Logan is very nice.

Please don't choose binky. Nickname is fine but please find a more substantial first name since binky littlun is very twee.

Thaila would be better as spelt Tyler and it is fine for a boys name (despite Katie Hopkins). Maybe Taylor for a girl would be better? Or Taya? Or Taisiya which is Russian with taya for short?

bugsybill · 06/07/2013 13:18

Sorry I misread I thought your surname was littlun! Grin

As it isn't maybe I could suggest Inky short for Inken (old Norse name iirc)

twofingerstoGideon · 06/07/2013 13:27

Yolandi = a cross between yoni and leylandii. Lovely.

I like Logan, Skylar is a bit effeminate so has bullying potential and I think more associated with being a girls name, so even without the bullying aspect, it might just be constantly annoying having a girls name. Although maybe Rachel Zoe will have changed things.

I don't like Binky, makes me think of dummies or Made in Chelsea and I think it would only suit a certain kind of individual.

Thaila is pretty so prefer that. I can't see the point in the hyphen. I can't believe you would ever should the full name across the park etc, at school it will be shortened most likely to Ty, and the few people I know with hyphenated names always just use the first part in adulthood. Just give it as a middle name.

ByTheWishingWell · 06/07/2013 15:11

I prefer unusual names, so I'm with you on trying to pick something a bit different, but they're honestly all awful. I'm sorry.

Binky Ramone- could be used as a (very) private nickname, but it's not a name to be saddled with at school. I think Ramona would be nicer than Ramone, which sounds very masculine, but definitely get rid of Binky.

Logan Kassidi- Logan's fine. Kassidi looks like a trying-to-be-different spelling of Cassidy, which to me is definitely a girl's name.

Skylar-Rae- is fine. For a girl.

Thaila-Koltyn- I initially read this as Thalia, which I like better if you're going for quite unusual names. Hearing Thaila as Tyler, it's a boy's name, and she would be forever correcting people and spelling it. Please don't hyphenate with Koltyn (preferably don't use it at all!)- I'm with the poster who mentioned dodgy 80's sci-fi on that one!

Yolandi or Yolanda would be fine (for a girl!).

Ruprekt · 06/07/2013 21:07

Any more thoughts OP?

rockybalboa · 06/07/2013 21:10

Joke post right?!?

ZolaBuddleia · 06/07/2013 21:12

Blimey, there are some belters there. Are they anagrams?

VegPatchLurker · 06/07/2013 21:14

All awful

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 06/07/2013 21:20

This is a joke.... right?!
