So confused.....

I don't think I will ever find the perfect name for a dd. I guess the problem may be that we have been ttc unsuccessfully for two and half years so I have had way too long to obsess.

I keep coming back to the same set of names but for whatever reason (either popularity or lack of good nn) I can't settle (dh loves Clementine).

So am I missing something? Have I just not found "it"? Or is it that I have had too long to think? Confused

The list is......

Phoebe.. Love but popularity bothers me (though not popular in my country)

Juno.....no decent nn

Clementine.....no decent nn

Beatrix....gives me nn Bee which I love but getting popular and would a teenager hate it?

Penelope....about to skyrocket and the Kardashian link bothers me.

Florence....popular

India....could be difficult to live with?

Kitty...seen as dowdy here in Ireland, plus could be pronounced Kihhy!

Polly...too much like Molly, Holly etc etc yawn!

Tabitha....nn not great plus dh can't pronounce the th!!

Cordelia...too frilly.

Tallulah...dh not feeling this one

Iris....don't know

Violet....nice but not it

Can you suggest anything with a similar feel that I may have missed?

All lovely names.

What about Celia or Felicity?

Redlocks30 · 04/07/2013 22:50

I like quite a few of those names!

What about Martha, Matilda, Flora, Clara, Imogen, Claudia, Ffion?

I think you can drive yourself mad looking at popularity lists or sneery posts about certain names. Someone will always think your name is over-popular/faddish etc, unless you use a staid classic, in which case someone will find you boring.
Aside from Phoebe, are there any of the names that you really get a good feeling about/ love? I would look at those only.

From your list I think Clementine, Juno, Iris, Kitty & Violet are all lovely. I wouldn't worry about a name not being easily shortened or having a nn. If you like the full name, use the full name. Both my DS's have names that could be shortened but they're always called by their full names as that's who they are, IYKWIM?

It IS easy to over think. Smile I found it helpful to say the names out loud, using sentences I could imagine saying at different stages; "This is our baby, xxx", "xxx, get down from there", "xxx, you're not going out until you do your homework", "xxx. Get a job!" Worked for me. Grin

Other names that are kind of similar ... Cora? Sylvie? Amandine? Erica? Delphine?

I like Penelope most from your list and it doesn't seem to have sky rocketed in popularity since being chosen by one of the Kardashian. It was a very left field choice for them to be fair.
