Hi all

DH and I have been set on Hero for DD2 (due in 3 weeks) but I am starting to panic that it might become really trendy as Ava did after Myleene Klass used it. I'd love to know if you think it will spike in popularity.

I know lots of people won't like the name as it has been slated on here before and I don't mind that. I just don't want to choose a name thinking it is fairly unusual just to see it become top ten.

Thanks in advance x

In my opinion the only things that are important when choosing a name for your child is
a. do you really, really, really like it? (not just this week but long term)
b. is it a name that your little person will happily be able to live with through their life without ridicule?
c. does it sound ok with your surname?
Popularity and whether other people like it are both unimportant to me.

However, if Ava spiked for after her first child I guess Hero will after choosing it for her latest.

Hi, thanks for posting. Yes we both like it and it does go with our surname. If I am honest sudden popularity would spoil it for me. DH doesn't care about popularity + I daresay he's right

I don't think it will spike anywhere near as much as Ava did, its a much more 'out there' name that I think a lot of people wouldn't be comfortable using. Not saying it isn't nice, just that I think its more marmite than Ava and therefore I think less likely to become very popular.

How old is Mylene's Ava? I would hazard that Mylene was part of the zeitgeist rather than causing it.

Hero is great.

If like to add a criteria for naming a baby... Would you want to be called Hero?
I don't think it will become top 100 or anything. If you like it go for it!

rockybalboa · 05/07/2013 20:50

I can't imagine Hero will go top 10. Myleene Klass isn't that influential and I doubt she was responsible for the resurgence of Ava. Hero wouldn't pass the high court judge test for me though.

superdupermama · 05/07/2013 21:17

Ask yourself a question: would you like to be called Hero? It's a pretty good test. Or the playground one: shout out the name in a playground and see how you feel, do you feel uneasy, proud etc? X

CPtart · 05/07/2013 21:22

It's a word with another meaning like Paige or Willow, and for that reason I don't like it.

SandraClegane · 05/07/2013 21:30

I doubt it will become popular. Ava was trending well before Myleene Klass named her daughter; so as someone said she was riding the wave rather than causing it. That, and the fact that Hero is an awful, horrid name that I really can't see many people using/liking.

invicta · 05/07/2013 21:32

I agree with Fipssychic rules on choosing a name.

Hero is different but if you love it then use it! :)

I don't think it will surge in popularity like Ava, but there may be a slight increase in popularity. Also people may think you copied myleen, but this may not bother you.

However if you are having doubts maybe have a rethink? What is your first dd called? What other names do you like? What do you like about hero (the sound, the look, others with the name, the meaning etc)? But if you love hero don't do any if this rethinking and just use it :)
