Is it chavy? My husband and I love it but both DM & MIL hate it. Other option is Fearne.

I love it!! Just be wary of it shortened to Giz, not the nicest nickname IYKWIM!!

FreckledLeopard · 03/07/2013 14:27

I immediately think of the Brazilian supermodel, but then again, I doubt many of her peers will know of her (as she's not quite as much in the limelight now than she was five years ago).

It's a nice name. I can't bear Fearne, sorry.

Camdenstyles · 03/07/2013 14:32

That is the other issue natandmat,Do you think you could shorten it to something like Zelly or Gigi?

squoosh · 03/07/2013 14:32

I think of the leggy limbed supermodel, nothing wrong with having an association of beauty.

I like it but the 'jizz' nickname would put me off.

Don't like Fearne.

othersideofchannel · 03/07/2013 15:03

Would you pronounce it Jee-selle or Gee-selle? I know a Gisela, who is lovely. I don't think you'd need to shorten it at all.

Anjou · 03/07/2013 17:18

Giselle is a beautiful name but 'Jizz' is an inevitable & awful nickname. Shame.

Fearne isn't my cup of tea personally. Can't stand Fearne Cotton but, apart from that, it's a little dull/frumpy. Quite a departure from Giselle.

How about Giniver, Georgia/Georgette or Janelle as an alternative to Giselle? And Freya, Fleur or Anya instead of Fearne? Good luck!

islandinthestream · 03/07/2013 17:35

I know an adult Giselle. Family and friends call her Gigi. Never been called Giz to my knowledge. It's a lovely name and makes me think of the ballet.

NowPlayingZone · 03/07/2013 19:19

Live giselle, but couldn't risk 'jizz'.

Would maybe use Genevieve or Josette/Joselle.

Rhubarbgarden · 03/07/2013 19:28

Giselle is beautiful. I know one who goes by the nickname of Gigi. I also love Fern, but not spelt Fearne.

Still18atheart · 03/07/2013 19:33

Don't like it sorry

one of the reasons the poor girl will have to live up to a leggy supermodel

Also some pretty foul nns come out of it

forevergreek · 03/07/2013 19:39

I like it. Don't like the nicknames but you don't need to use one

Otherwise maybe estelle?

Greenandcabbagelooking · 03/07/2013 19:42

It makes me think of the ballet. Not too keen if I'm honest.

How about Gabrielle(a)?

bugsybill · 04/07/2013 06:19

I like it.

I think if I were to use it I would go with gazelle, as I suspect that people would mistakenly pronounce it as jizz elle. Not sure how you would feel about a nature/animal name though.

whyno · 04/07/2013 06:33

Lovely. And Gigi or Ellie as nn.

HoneyandRum · 04/07/2013 07:38

First Giselle I think of is the princess (Amy Adams) in "Enchanted" a hugely popular movie in our house.

natandmat · 04/07/2013 07:51

I think Gigi would be a lovely nn, but unfortunately regardless of what you may shorted it to at home cruel school friends will call her Jizz!

I also love Fearne!

TigOldBitties · 04/07/2013 15:54

I love this name but its the Jizz part that would spoil it for me too.

What about Jessamy, Jessamyn, Lucille or Amelle?

Dreya · 04/07/2013 16:14

I have a Giselle nn Gigi. Pronounced correctly there is no 'jizz' sound. I know adult Giselle's (both quite stunning so I have always associated the name with beautiful people!) and neither have been called Jizz so it is not inevitable at all. One was called Zellie through high school. It is such a beautiful name that I am stuggling to find a name I love even half as much for DD2. Fearne is okay Giselle is beautiful.

blueshoes · 04/07/2013 16:50

Before the supermodel came along, Giselle brings to mind the classical ballet. Which is lovely and refined.

YoungBritishPissArtist · 04/07/2013 17:04

Why Fearne and not Fern? I like the name but it would be misspelled a lot.
