Sorry, but I can't think of anything I like about that name - oh, and I've just remembered that a dear friend's loathsome, bullying father was called Ronald. Maybe that association is what makes me dislike it so much, but the Ronald McDonald association is indeed unfortunate and might well cause your DS grief.

Yes, surprisingly Ronnie is a rather nice nickname. Gerry is too though, and if you like names that end "ald" how about Gerald? I think it's much nicer than Ronald; it's a strong name but somehow less hard sounding.

It makes me think of Ron Weasley. Only you can say if that is something that would bother you! I wouldn't use it personally, but I do like the name.

No. I've got an Uncle Ronald. He's about 5ft 5inch, fat rotund and bald.

I raise you: Rodney. I think it's brilliant. I have looked at DS and thought: "You could have pulled off Rodney."

Afraid when I hear that name proposed for a baby I think 'oh dear, why would you want to inflict that on your child'. Makes me think of Ronald McDonald, Ron & Reggie Kray and Ronald Reagan. But each to his own and all that.

I like it, although I would worry it would get shortened to Ron which is up there with Brian as names unlikely to be revived.

i know of a ronnie. so you could use that for every day....which i think is lovely. well known, but not regularly used

Ronald McDonald House, Ron Weasley. No. Terrible. What about Vincent? Shortened to Vinnie, it has a similar feel but is a much cooler name imo.

Ronny (with a y) is a name in its own right.

I don't particularly like it, or any possible variations. Sorry.
But I will always caveat by saying that if you like it, then by all means use it, (but perhaps provide him with a middle name that is less 'marmite' just in case he's not a fan either)

Ronald is a truly awful name.

You have plenty of time to punish your child when they're a stroppy teen, please don't punish them with this name!
