How many babies have been named Alice near you?

Hello all,

I really like Alice for our next DC, due in 3 months. However, I've seen baby names lists that show it has jumped to number 12 during the first quarter of 2013.

I really don't want a top 20 name - how many babies do you know who've been born recently and named Alice? Particularly interested in Yorkshire!

TIA

I know two; one is 18 months, the other 21 years.
I would put Alice in the same category as names like Mary/Elizabeth/Catherine/Jane, i.e. traditional or classic.
A surge in popularity now won't mean anything in the long run as it hasn't rushed back from obscurity. I think it's a great, unfaddy, solid name.

It's fairly popular around here- I know 3 under 3. I don't think any name lists are reliable apart from ONS though?

MERLYPUSS · 02/07/2013 09:46

I know 1 Alice, 1 Alissia (Al-iss-e-a) and 1 Alicia ( Al-ee-sha) in reception. There is one Alice in the year 1 I help in. I love the name.

Dont know any, lovely name

Alice is one of our top names for our little girl who is due in October, and the only name on the shortlist that me and my hubby really agree on - but I am also concerned about the huge rise in popularity recently. The only Alice I do know is the daughter of a school friend of my mums, who lives in New Zealand! But at the same time, I don't know that many people with children, and most of them have boys, so not very helpful for keeping on eye on current trends. We are in Lincolnshire.

FobblyWoof · 02/07/2013 19:00

I think the baby names website are maybe basing that on searches and views for the name Alice rather than how many babies are actually called it, IFSWIM?

I know one baby Alice- mine Grin she's 17 months now. I know of a couple of teen Alice's in the area but I've never met either of them.

AnythingNotEverything · 02/07/2013 19:07

I'm really hoping this jump to 12 is nonsense - it wasn't the official ONS list.

It's the only girl name we agree on and there are no guarantees that yours will be uniquely named in their class, whatever you call them.

Thanks all - I think you've put my mind at ease.

There are three in DD's pre-school (so all aged 4 now). That's out of about 20 girls. There's three Isla's too. They are definitely the 'it' names in my little corner of the south west.

AmandaPandtheTantrumofDoom · 02/07/2013 19:13

There were 1,550 in England and Wales in 2011 according to the ONS. By comparison, Olivia, Amelia and Lily were all around 5,000.

None at all. I only know one Alys and she's in school already. :)

SisterMatic · 02/07/2013 19:24

I have one. She is the only one I know.

insancerre · 02/07/2013 19:25

I have an Alice but she is 16. She is the only one in her school (1000+)
I have only come across one other and she will be about 5 now
I come across a lot of children as I work in nurseries and have worked in 5 over the last year.
I live in the northwest.

capercaillie · 02/07/2013 19:28

I have a 3 year old one. There is another at preschool but we don't know any others. Loads of people compliment her name though.

reggiebean · 02/07/2013 19:32

I know an Alice (she's almost 2) and she's in London.

Rhubarbgarden · 02/07/2013 19:34

I know a teenage Alice in Yorkshire. A toddler Alice, a toddler Alicia and a baby Alessia in the SE.
