daragh?

I know it's naughty bc we only just got bfp but I cant help myself! Last time round we knew it was a boy and still took ages to settle on James Padraig. This time round I'm starting the planning early.. We know almost for sure Aoife for a girl and for a boy Daragh. We have Irish and Greek backgrounds and I have an Irish name too but live in UK. What do ppl think ? Any other Irish boy recommendations? Want something slightly more unique this time round.

I knew one years ago. I like it. My favourite Irish boy's name is Diarmuid.

I like it, but would've thought it was spelt Darragh. Hopefully some native speakers will be along to advise.

The one I knew had two rs in the middle as well. so I don't know. Two Rs together isn't usual in Irish but the one I knew spelt his name Darragh.

I only know it as Darragh - really like it !

I like Daragh & prefer it to the Darragh, Dara or Daire spellings.

In the UK you might find people are inclined to spell it Darragh, though.

Congratulations on your bfp

My 13 week old Nephew is Darragh (Irish BIL). I wasn't sure of it at first but it has really grown on me.

Also on their shortlist were Connor, Cormac, Cillian and Keiran.

And if they have a girl in future she will definitely be Aoife.

I just googled Cillian for the spelling and Cillian Murphy popped up. His kids are apparently called Malachy and Carrick, both of which I quite like.

I like Dara, although I know a lot under 6, but am in NI.

Darragh/Daragh/Dara/Daire are all hugely popular in Ireland. I always notice people on T.V. pronouncing Dara (O'Briain)'s name wrong and this would really turn me off naming my baby this if I lived in the UK.

I'm Irish, but I'm not hugely fond of Irish boys' names (by the way, Aoife is extremely popular here too, if that bothers you) except for Senan, Kieran and Aodh.

hi thanks for all your responses. I'm thinkin two rr s rather than one afterall people are going to struggle all his life to spell it right (I know that feeling ). Interesting to hear all your other suggestions thank you. It's interesting how names v popular in Ireland are not all as population here (niamh and aidan v v popular here too and now been struck off our list). Another female name we like is caoimhe.... is that popular over there? x
