Annalise

How would you pronounce this?

I like names containing Anna, and my DP and I both like Elise and Eloise, but I don't like Ellie as a nn, which is kind of inevitable.

So Annalise would be nice, but I've only known it as a German name where it has been pronounced
Ann a lis er. I don't like the 'er' on the end, but like it pronounced Ann a lise, I.e as you would pronounce Elise.

What do people think?

I would pronounce it anna-leece. Lovely name btw. Although she may well be known only as Anna to her friends.

Alisvolatpropiis · 29/06/2013 15:34

Anna-leese.

DramaAlpaca · 29/06/2013 15:41

Anna-leese as above.

The German variation is usually spelled Annaliese, and pronounced Anna-leeza.

Sanjifair · 29/06/2013 16:05

Good! It's a definite possibility (if we have a girl that is).

Anna-leese.

As long as it's not Anna Lice!

southlondongirlie · 29/06/2013 18:54

Anneliese is my sister's name - the German spelling (our dad is German) is Anneliese but we've always pronounced it Anna-leese. She is in her thirties and always gets compliments on her name :)

Nicknames vary from Anna, Annie to Leesey.

Zynia41 · 29/06/2013 19:03

I really like it but please spell it Anneliese. If you start doing weird things to the spelling it's a bit 'neighbours'. which is fine, there have been a million characters over the years, you can't rule out any name that 's been on neighbours. But still, just spell it the original way (please) Flowers

Zynia41 · 29/06/2013 19:03

oh, I didn't answer your question! annaleez

Katz · 29/06/2013 19:08

My dd is Annalise, everyone except her German uncle calls her annaleese he goes with annalisa.

We gets lots of compliments on her name and we've not met another one yet.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 29/06/2013 19:44

We know a baby Annalise, very pretty name.

LynetteScavo · 29/06/2013 19:50

Anna-leese.

It's lovely.

I also love names containing Anna. Smile

WilmaFingerdoo · 29/06/2013 19:53

We spent ages deliberating between Anneliese and Annabel for DD. Love them both.

We plumped for Annabel and I'm glad as it suits DD so much

. Agree about the spelling though.

WilmaFingerdoo · 29/06/2013 19:53

Oh yes sorry

Anna leece

IHeartKingThistle · 29/06/2013 20:02

Love it.

bugsybill · 30/06/2013 00:24

saffronwblue · 30/06/2013 00:27

I have an Estonian friend called Anneliis.

AllegraLilac · 30/06/2013 01:39

I know a Scouser called Annaliese, and we pronounce it Anna-leece. Very pretty and makes a nice change!

ICanTotallyDance · 30/06/2013 08:13

I love the name. My first ever netball coach was called Annalise (maybe Annaliese?) I was eight and she was a sixth former who was very kind and always bought the team lollies so naturally I adored her and tucked the name away for future use! Not the question you were asking but I just wanted to say I admire the name.

It was pronounced Anna-leese (like lease as in lease a property)
