So we found out we are having a boy this week Smile We have a 2 year old girl called Alice and our surname is 5 letters long ending in M. We are struggling to agree on names so would like some advice about which names people prefer of the list below. The middle name will be Thomas.

Tristan Thomas (I love the name Tristan, hubby agrees but does it sound silly with Thomas being middle name?)
Nicholas Thomas (hubby says its an old fashioned name and sounds silly as ends the same as Thomas)
Patrick Thomas (I love the name but don't like any shortened versions of it)
Robin Thomas
Dominic Thomas (Dom Tom??)

Please let me know your thoughts

Favourite is Patrick Thomas. They are all nice names but can see what your dh means about the Nicholas Thomas thing. Would depend on your last name whether it could pass. Similar thing could be said for Tristan Thomas but I quite like any of them!

Oooo congratulations! Flowers

I really like Patrick Thomas too, Tristan Thomas sounds perfectly okay to me, if you were intending to name him that. My reasons for not liking the other names are only because of the combination, Robin Thomas doesn't seem to flow as well as the others and Nicholas Thomas has that same issue too. But they are all really lovely names so I completely understand your dilemma!

Thanks for the responses Smile I really love the name Tristan the most. Maybe we should think about adding another middle name before Thomas? Do middle names even matter that much? I hardly ever say mine.

Oh and I meant our surname starts with the letter M rather than ends with it. Baby brain!

I wouldn't have a first name that ends in an N (Tristan) followed by a surname that starts with an M. Too easy to run on, IYSWIM?
I like Patrick best there.

I think we might have narrowed it down to:
Tristan Thomas
and
Patrick Thomas
Any preferences or comments welcome Smile

Prefer Patrick Thomas though if you and DH prefer Tristan you should definitely go for that.

I think your suggestion of another middle name between the two might be good though - maybe something short like:
Tristan Marc Thomas
Tristan Paul Thomas
Tristan James Thomas
Tristan Luke Thomas
Tristan Blake Thomas
Tristan Karl Thomas
Tristan Greg Thomas
Tristan Quinn Thomas
Tristan John Thomas

Tristan Patrick Thomas?

bugsybill · 29/06/2013 23:47

Tristan sounds best with alice :)

Both Tristan and Patrick are nice and I dont think Patrick needs shortening.

MustafaCake · 29/06/2013 23:50

Tristan and Patrick are both really nice.

Why don't you wait to meet your boy and see which suits him best?

Thanks for your comments guys. I ran the 2 middle names idea past DH but he's really against it. So Tristan is definitely our fave. But does Tristan Thomas sound weird? Also if it gets shortened to Tris does it sound twee when said with Alice? I am so over thinking this I know! Smile
